Final Thoughts on this Season

I know Olds is going to argue but I think after the butt kicking yesterday and our coach interviewing for multiple jobs, we should not accept a post season invite even if one comes along.

The Good
The Destruction Zone - Way to think out of the box and improve the student experience. I hope this keeps improving next season.

The win against USU and the 9 game conference winning streak

Jerrick Harding nuff said! But he can't do it alone.

The Bad
The conference schedule - It was not in our control but it was shame we played the top 3 teams once and in the last 4 games of the season

Randy's 7 man rotation - You wonder why the team is tired? You have to go deeper in the bench. Turner and Court should have got more minutes. Dallas is a liability so I can understand why he didn't play more.

The fact that we only have two seniors on the roster each year. Gittens and Cannon both could have helped this team. The way coach is structuring it makes it so we have big learning curves and chemistry issues at the beginning of every season. Yes, we never have a total rebuilding year but we also are not having years of total domination.

The Ugly
THE OOC SCHEDULE - This is in our control and we have a coach more concerned about getting 20 wins each year than putting his team in games that will prepare them. Randy should be allowed 1 non D1 game a year period! We need to play a few really good games, sorry BYU and Fresno doesn't cut it. We came into conference play softer than a baby's butt and it is all on the staff for nor preparing the team. We played in the state of Utah for almost 6 weeks straight in the pre-season. That's crazy! Get these boys road tested a little bit.

The fact that our head coach is interviewing for other jobs the final two weeks of the season. If the interviews did not happen he needed to squash the rumors immediately so it wasn't a distraction to the team. This team fizzled fast, losing 4 of the last 5. It may be that 4 of those 5 games were against the top 4 teams. But something has been off the last two weeks. How often do we lose both games of a home stand.

SATOG - Jerry Bovee it really is time for Jake Stone to go. He really isn't helping sponsors or the feel of the game. He is a distraction that makes people not want to go to the game.

I agree 100%.

How many of these poor kids get to take the fall for Rahe again this offseason and get "counseled" out? I'm guessing at least half the team won't be back.

Oh yeah. Pure speculation, but I see Ary-Turner, Dallas, Morris, John, and Court all gone next year. If Rahe is the coach next year, he better bring in some immediate help. Im talking JC kids. The JC route works. Former MVP's McCoy and Berry were JC. Heck, even Bam was I think. We need help at the point, and 4/5 positions. No reason we cant run a 8-9 man rotation.

Berry was a D2 transfer. I don't think JC kids are the answer. Remember how well JC All-Americans Golden and Coston-Johnson worked out 3 years ago. I'm not ready to give up on Court or Ary-Turner. If coach is, why did we bring them in the first place? Maybe there is a grad transfer that would fit well. The problem with a 7 man rotation is that only half of your players are getting any PT. It was a real waste to not get some of these young guys more experience.

Im not ready to give up on them either, but you know how things go around here. They will be shown the door. Something has to change though. With our current team and players recruited for next year, we do not have any good bigs save Zack. Just more freshman coming in...

Fan is right. There will be a number of kids not returning next season. I believe Morris, unless he is graduating, will be back next year, since he is a walk on and doesn't take up a scholarship. The kid should have been playing 5-10 each night giving Braxton a breather, but instead of hustle, coach goes with Dallas. God bless him he is a good kid, but not a DI basketball player. Morris is better than Dallas and it frustrated me seeing him on the bench when Dallas got into the game. I digress, but, yes, Dallas and either Trevon Ary or Court will be gone. Since I believe either Court or Turner will be gone along with Dallas, that means, Randy is looking to add another player this Spring. I wonder what he has up his sleeve. He needs to get over the shortened rotation and get to at least a 9 man next year.

Personally, Randy owes Court another year. The kid got back from a mission late August, gets hurt in September, and the coach burns his red shirt for a measly 1min average. To me, a total WTF moment. I get it John was injured and Coach was really depending on John to provided 10 a game this season. His injury really hurt us. Yet, if you aren't going to play someone, don't waste their eligibility. As for Cody John, he should be back. He has started shooting again and running drills. He isn't lifting yet, but that should come soon. Question is, will he still have his speed? Personally, I think this experience has the potential to make Cody into an even better basketball player.

What we should be asking is who will make an immediate impact? I like the class coming in. We get two RMs in Spencer Johnson and Tim Fuller. Both get back far earlier than Court did last summer. Fuller will be back in April and Johnson will be back in June. Israel Barnes is the real deal, poor kid got injured and, I think, missed the end of his SR season, but should be as good as new by June. Donatas Kupsas, has a lot of potential. The kid was a double-double machine for one of the top teams on the east coast. If anything, I like his attitude. One reason he chose Weber was because he was told he would have to work hard. He likes the challenge. Vialen will be a RS Freshman and could contribute.

Randy technically cannot use the "we are young and inexperienced" line next year. He will have five starters and three letter men (Court or Turner, Morris, and Doc) back and a RS FR. Starters: Harding, Chapman, Kozak, Braxton and John (yes he was a starter).

I'm guessing we will see, most likely, another European player added sometime this spring. Slight chance we see a 5 year senior.
