Hey EWU fans!,

My wife and I may be driving over for our first away Griz game this weekend and I figure we will make a weekend of it. You guys have any suggestions for the best place to say, places to hit up or any must see's for a couple that are 25 yrs old. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Go Griz!

If you're into hiking, you can arrive a little early and take a hike around Turnbull National Park before the game.

It's actually in Cheney! If hiking is a no-go, I can't really think of anything that isn't outdoorsy to do around here haha.

I'm not sure if it's still a thing, but Turnbull used to have a drive through tour that was a decent compromise. If you have time, you could check out Manitou park on the South Hill Other than that, check out Spokane falls and Riverfront Park. As far as places to check out, If you like Italian food, Luigi's in downtown Spokane is a solid choice. Anthony's is good for seafood (and nice views of the falls) Steak and chops, my favorite is the Wolf Lodge (kinda pricey, but very worth it). For good pub food and a relaxed vibe, check out O'doherty's Irish Grill downtown. Gibliano Brothers is a dueling piano bar that's pretty fun. Places to stay: The Double Tree, Red Lion (either one; Inn at the park or River Inn), and the Best Western near there is good too. Go Eags!!

Turnbull is still available for driving through, but its not as good as the Bison Range in your neck of the woods so you would probably be a little disappointed if you chose that. Downtown Spokane would be fun possible like mentioned before, but it's all going to involve some getting out and walking.

As far as places to stay, the Northern Quest is hands down the best! Also has plenty to keep you busy while you're there, but is also a bit expensive.

Hope you enjoy your trip to the area BUT...

GO EAGLES!! :thumb:

First of all...congrats

As for places to stay, ewueagle2010 is right. If you can, stay at the Quest, Vegas style hotel/casino and it will be filled with Griz fans. Plenty of other hotel options around, a lot of nice places to stay. Although it is in Idaho, lake CDA is a nice place to visit if you have time, plus its on your way.

MTGriz,
Place to stay in Cheney, Holiday Inn, Non Smoking. Cont Breakfast, however, there is a little Plaza in the area, that is in close proximity, that is loaded places to eat. Hope it is not filled up as yet. In the area, there is a Subway, SafeWay Stores, Pizza Hut, and others. Have a safe trip here and back to your home. Enjoy the game and make new friends. Hope all have been helpful. Take carre. Vic Wallace

Turnbull is not exactly "in" Cheney. The main entrance is 5 miles south of town, and yes the auto tour route is still open. Not a bad time of year to go either as it's almost elk season and the herd of 200 or so should be moving back onto the refuge to avoid the cross fire. You can also see deer, moose, a ton of waterfowl, and there's a few short (1/4 mile) walks to view points your wife might be able to handle.

I would also recommend the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane's historic Browns Addition.http://www.northwestmuseum.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's a couple of good, non-chain, type restaurants nearby.

Downtown Spokane is really nice with all sorts of dining and shopping options.

Another hotel option that's close is the Airport Peppertree Inn right off the 1-90 between Cheney and Spokane.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend...but not too enjoyable. ;)

Better stay away from casinos. We did Vegas this summer and I've had enough gambling losses for a while haha. Thanks for the info

GO GRIZ!
