Based on everything I've been told or read this is going to be a special class of athletes:

POCATELLO, Idaho – ISU Head Coach Seton Sobolewski announced Thursday that the ISU women’s basketball team has signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

“We are very pleased and excited about our 2013 signing class,” Sobolewski said. “We are graduating five very special seniors and replacing them with players that have speed, athleticism, length and talent. I believe this is one of the best signing classes we have ever had at Idaho State.”

Kyndall Adams is the first signee for ISU. Adams is a 5-10 guard from Chandler, Ariz., and currently attends Hamilton High School. Adams is a three-year letterman in basketball and is ranked in the top 10 in most state rankings. She led her team to a second-place finish at the Division I State Championship last season and was named all-region second team, AZ-Tribune honorable mention and was named to the AZBBC All-Star Team. She has an ESPN 3-star ranking and has the second-most points in school history with 930. She also has 512 career rebounds. She plays club basketball under head coach Kayli Murphy on the California Storm.

“With Kyndall, we feel that we’ve signed one of the top guards in the state of Arizona,” Sobolewski said. “She has a great feel for the game of basketball and is talented in many ways. She can do everything from playing on the perimeter and breaking people down on the dribble to posting up smaller guards. She can score, pass, dribble and defend.”

ISU’s second signee, Sherise Porchia is from Boise, Idaho and plays for a Centennial High School team coached by former ISU player, Cassie Bro. Porchia is a 5-7 point guard that has lettered in basketball every year of her career at CHS. In 2010 she led her team to a fourth-place finish at the state 5A championship. In 2011, she helped lead the Patriots to a district championship and a fifth-place finish at the state tournament and was named to the all-tournament team. In 2012, her team finished second at the state championship and she earned first team all-conference honors and was named all-state, all-idahosports.com and all-tournament at the Gonzaga High School Tournament. While playing with her club team, the Northwest Blazers (coached by Steve Klees), she was named all-tournament at the Music City Madness Tournament in Tennessee. Porchia excels on and off the court as she maintains a 3.5 GPA and has been named to the All-SIC Academic Team in 2010 and 2011.

“Sherise might be the best point guard in the state of Idaho,” Sobolewski said. “This past summer we saw Sherise compete against some of the nation’s most athletic players and she more than held her own. She is an exceptionally quick point guard who can get to the basket, find the open player, defend on the perimeter and hit an open shot.”

The third signee, Lindsey Brown hails from Arlington, Wash., and currently attends Arlington High School. Brown is a 6-1 forward and three-time letter winner in basketball. In the 2011-12 season, she was named All-Wesco 4A Second Team and Wesco 4A Top 10 Scorer. She averaged 11.1 points and nine rebounds per game, shot 38 percent for 3-point range and was a team captain and MVP. She plays club ball for the ECBA Swish, coached by Dan Kriley. She currently holds a 3.68 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Junior Achievement Award honoree.

“With Lindsay you have a 6-1 player who can handle the ball, defend multiple positions, shoot the three and is a good rebounder,” Sobolewski said. “She is a player that is a perfect fit for the motion offense.”

ISU’s fourth signee, Amy Davis is a 6-1 forward from Bozeman, Mont., and currently attends Bozeman High School. Davis was a member of the BHS state championship team her freshman year and has led her team to a third-place state finish her sophomore year and a second-place finish last season. She has lettered in basketball all three years of her career and was named all-conference last season. Davis also plays for the Northwest Blazers club team under head coach Steve Klees.

“Amy is a tall, athletic player that is very versatile,” Sobolewski said. “She can play the 2-4 positions, she is a solid shooter from 15-17 feet out and she has quick feet that will allow her to guard players who are smaller than her. She is very coachable and a hard worker.”

The fifth signee for Idaho State, Katrina Bacovcin, is from Parker, Colo., and is currently a senior at Chaparral High School. Bacovcin is a 6-0 athlete who can play at the small forward and power forward positions. She has lettered in basketball all three years of her career. With a 16-9 record last season, her team was ranked No. 30 in the state last year. In 2009 her team made it to the Elite Eight in the state tournament and in 2010 the team made it to the Sweet 16 round. Last season, Bacovcin led her team to the second round of the state championship. Bacovcin plays club basketball for the Colorado Hoopsters and is coached by Steve Fendry. Bacovcin currently maintains a 3.5 GPA.

“Katrina is a long, athletic player who can play multiple positions,” Sobolewski said. “At 5-11 to 6-0, Katrina can shoot the three, defend on the perimeter and the post, rebound and she is a competitor. One thing that stood out about her was how intense she was in games she played in.”

The five signees will join the Bengal ranks for the 2013-14 campaign and will be a part of a veteran squad that will feature five seniors.

I got a chance to see Centennial's Sherise Porchia play last night against Meridian, and I was really impressed with a lot of things about her. She plays good defense, is a very good ball handler, has good quickness, gets the pass to the open ballplayer, and basically does a very good job of running their offense. She had 11 of Centennial's 38 points in their loss to the Warriors, and she can hit the 3. ISU's getting a very good ballplayer in Sherise, and I think she has a very bright future for the Bengals. Centennial is coached by former ISU players Cassie Bro and Ashley Toner. Brent Koetter's daughter also plays for the Patriots.

Seton said on the coaches show this past week that the other signees are off to strong starts as well and gave examples of the young woman from Bozeman and the woman from the Seattle area.

I have followed the works of Sherese Portia for the last 3 years. ISU is really lucky in signing her as there were several pther DI schools where she could have gone. The connection of her coaches could have made the difference. I doubt that no one will out work her and her attitude towards the game of basketball, I doubt can be excelled. She is very smart, sees the whole court, passes well, unselfish(almost to a fault). She can go to the rim very fast and the best thing is to watch her finish with the left hand. She jumps very well for a 5'7" player. It will beexciting to watch her career go on at ISU. Congratulations Sherese.
