Five teams in Post Season

Montana, Idaho, and Eastern to the CBI. North Dakota to the CIT.

Five teams from the BSC in post season play. This might be a new record. This might be an indication that things may be improving for the league. Now we just need to win some more games. The over all talent level in the BSC does seem to be getting better.

I'm encouraged. :coffee:

Or it may be a sign that the every deserves a ribbon mentality is spreading. You have the Las Vegas 16 tournament that is new this year besides the NCAA, NIT, CBI & CIT. Most teams with a winning record will have a chance at post season play. This is the most Big Sky teams I have seen in the CBI. I wonder if the Vegas 16 has had the greatest impact on that tournament. I hope all of our teams can represent well. Not sure how Eastern gets a home game and Montana has to travel?

Definitely not a sign that the conference is improving. I don't think the conference has ever been worse, honestly. Don't know for sure, but the conference's RPI this season has to be the lowest it's ever been. It's regular season and tournament champion goes 26-8 and only gets a 15 seed. What Mark Few just said about the WCC could be said about the Sky, "the rest of the conference is dragging the top (two) down." Bovee recently said something very similar.

College basketball is all about tournaments now. There are now five post-season tournaments that invite a total of 164 teams (almost half the total of all D1 teams). And I wouldn't be at all surprised to see more tournaments start up in the future.

it appears basketball is following football.
350 teams about. 5 tournaments.

ncaa 68
nit 32
cit 16
cbi 16
vegas 16 (though i can only see 8 teams)

148 / 350. that means 42% of D1 now has a post season.

there are so many teams with a post season in 2016 that the vegas 16's first sentence is bragging that they have some 20 win teams, in fact they have 6 of them. i was not aware that was something to brag about. :ohno:

CIT is 32

There are really only a small handful of programs out there who regularly vie for the National Championship. Outside of that, the rest of us are playing for other sorts of championships.

Weber State University's basketball team wins championships quite often. I've said it before, and I'll say it many times, that is why we get the players we get. 90% of the schools out there win no championships. They might be in a big conference, but if they are never, never going to win any championships, WHY PLAY THERE?
I can see it if you are an outstanding academician and choose Stanford or Michigan. Other than that, players should choose places where they can win championships, enjoy the experience, and get an education. In the BSC that seems to be Weber and Montana. I'm not saying that these other schools can't do it, they can. They just need to work a little harder to get there, that's all.

For now, any tournament our teams can get into, and hopefully win, helps them and our conference. :thumb:

164 / 350. that means 47%. Yet still not as bad as FBS bowls.

I think there are 120 FBS teams. 80 bowl teams / 120 = 66%. If 66% went to a post season in basketball that would be 231 teams. Now that truley would be a ribbon post season.

Ok I guess all the elation of winning the big sky regular and tournament and representing the conference in the big dance is history. That was quick.

Big Sky down to two.

CBI Action

Eastern Washington beats Pepperdine 79-72

Montana got ousted by Nevada 79-75 (Heard Nevada got quite a bit of home cookin', still cant believe Montana didn't bid for a home game, they are always soooooo willing to bid for Football home games)

Idaho loses at Seattle 68-63

CIT Action

North Dakota loses to UC Irvine 89-86 in overtime.

So now the Big Sky is down to two teams left in the postseason.

Weber of course plays Xavier on Friday

Eastern Washington plays at Nevada on Monday the 21st
