Food for thought for your dream of a move to the Big West

Per CS.com this evening, Long Beach State is floating a student referendum for a $89/term student fee to resurrect their long-dormant football program. If it succeeds (somehow I doubt it), it could be the first step in getting the Big West to sponsor football again, especially since CP and UCD give it a bit of a head start if they could be convinced to welch on the Big Sky.

If this happens, would it be even more of an incentive to push for a move to the Big West? It would certainly save travel $$ (except for trips to HI). The drawback might be a drop in RPI due to the presence of horrible Riverside and Northridge. Of course, this is balanced by the Sky presence of UNC, SUU, and UND, so it might be a moot point.

I believe the good student of 'The Beach' need a lesson on the new math of Title IX. the number of undergraduates (assuming this applied only to undergrads) is about 28,000. at $89 per, that's about 2.4M. not bad.....but....how do you fund the 60-70 women's scholarships and added programs needed to comply with Title IX? not to mention the start-up costs associated with football.

the liklihood of a california public university starting up a football program in the next decade is pretty minimal.

now, a school in San Antonio or Mobile, Alabama? that's a different story.

Yeah, LB would have to drop mens water polo, tiddly winks, badmittion and perhaps laser tag too.
Not going to happen, Foolerton has a better chance as they have a 12K stadium that is kinda nice.

LBSU athletic director Vic Cegles told the Daily 49er in June 2009, "It's not even on the back burner, it's off the burner."

In Monday's Long Beach Press-Telegram, he reaffirmed his stance by saying, "It's very, very, very, very unrealistic."

As much as I would like to see Long Beach or any Big West school restarting football I don't see it happening.
It would take at least 3 restarting to make Big West football (somewhat) viable. If one school was to ever restart the best scenario would be to join Big Sky Football which would bring it to 14 and allow for a western and eastern division.
