football fans or PSU fans?

It's disheartening to see talk fall silent here on this board as it becomes obvious that we don't have a very good football team this year. But come on! Is that the only thing you people care about?! Are you football fans or PSU fans? We just won the Big Sky conference in soccer! We're in first place in volleyball diving into the last two weeks of play with some incredibly exciting matches ahead of us! Ok, you don't know anything about soccer (though the whole world plays it). This is your chance to learn something about it. As for volleyball, it's the fastest and most exciting game we play, faster than basketball. And our team is GOOD this year. Oh, but I forgot - it's only women playing. Only women? You haven't seen our volleyball team play. This year we have a good chance to be Big Sky first in soccer, volleyball and basketball - all played by women. Three titles. Not bad for PSU. Not bad for any school. Get out of the football doldrums and pay attention!

Many good points. The buzzkill that is football shouldn't overshadow the arse we're kicking on the other fronts of the conference.

I really wish we played our home soccer matches closer to campus. I'm sure hope we play on Sunday. I'm hoping to get out there.

I don't care much about PSU soccer of volleyball. Don't get me wrong - I think it's fantastic everyone is doing such a great job - but those 'smaller' sports just don't create much of a game day experience for me.

On a positive note: football will recover and people will become more talkative. PSU is growing and so will its football/basketball program.

I totally agree. Women's BB won an NIT game last year and is preseason number one; coming from nowhere in just four years. There are exciting returning starters, Faucher at point. They more than deserve a look. We've got volleyball history too. And men's BB has been great. Fire up!

Portlandstater, I do sympathize. The tailgating, media excitement is haard to ignore. A huge amount of money goes into football, which has a lot to do with American football culture. But you know, soccer isn't exactly a "minor" sport. The fact that most of the big time world teams regularly beat up American teams may have something to do with the lack of interest here. But consider how UP's women's soccer does in Oregonian coverage. And yes, soccer has tailgaters too (and think of the Timbers Army). As for volleyball, the team is about the size of basketball and is played indoors like basketball. It could be as popular as basketball - if anyone bothered to watch it. Do me a favor; go to the EWU game next week and report back here your impressions. I'd be curious to know your reaction.
