Football strategy based on statistics.

A high school football coach is implementing a "never punt" strategy with his team. Interesting to think about when applied to say, a high powered offense such as our own. I think the probabilities are a little bit over generalized (for example, what if applied against a high powered defense).

Still, fun video to watch. Enjoy!

I though he was quite specific, like the fact that teams rec'd the ball on kickoffs on average of the 33 yd line and onside kicks average on the 45, a gain of only 12 yds and you prevented the chance of a runback and gained the chance of recovering the kick (turnover).
And to go for it on 4 and 7 at your own 5 yd line the chances of them scoring are 90+ % yet if the receive the ball at midfield the chance of a score is 77%.
I like it, wish a college team would try it.

Although unlikely, I would like to see it implemented at the college level as well. Most likely, that would come from an up and coming coach trying to make his mark.

Didn't Chip Kelly practically already implement that strategy at Oregon?

+1 That was my thought. Paul Johnson at GT goes on fourth a lot as well.
