Since nobody has posted it yet, thought I'd would. Hornets tabbed 6th in preseason poll.

Discuss.

Sounds about right. No reason to be voted higher until Sperbeck can get this program over the “middle of the road” hump.

On another note there has been a flurry of pics and blurbs posted on the football Facebook page from the BSC preseason meetings.

Yeah we been in that NAU 6-5, 5-6 state for the past few years. Which is better than the 2-9, 3-8 Moosh years for sure. In order to be a force, we need to be winning a minimum of 8 games a year. That said, for being an avg team, the fact we have been averaging close to 10K in attendance 4 out of the last 5 years (2010 we avg around 7500 a game) is a pretty good statement on far this program has come.

The attendance needs to get better. I think the powers that be need to continue with some promotional ideas to get people to the games. The military appreciation day worked well last season, I hope they continue with similar efforts to entice folks to come out. All in all it should be a strong year at the gate. Homecoming, UM, and the Causeway should have no problem cracking the 10k mark. That leaves the admin with 3 other home games to devise a way to have a strong turnout.

Back to preseason stuff, Worthley and Norrise were named to the BSC Preseason Team:

Why is Portland State ranked so low?
They loaded up with this kid from Arizona, Dame Nidye, and they also got 2 other kids from San Diego that left Fresno State. Victor Dean and David Dunn. Don't these kids have to sit out a year if they were on scholarship?

Welcome LincolnHornets9 ! If they transfer from a FBS program to another FBS program they would have to sit out a year.
If they transfer to a FCS, Div 2 school or below they can play right away..

Seems right to me. Sac St has to end the losing streaks against MSU and EWU in order to be taken seriously in this conf and get more respect from the other BSC coaches. With that said, pre-season polls mean nothing on the first game day of college football. Looking forward to hornet football.

The problem I have with this poll (other than the fact that it's way too early to have much value) is that it fails to account for NAU's rather predictable post-homecoming swoon. That alone should put us one or two spots higher (one being MUCH more realistic).

Just my opinion, mind you....

PSU is coming off of a horrid season (3-8 (2-6 BSC), only 2 D1 wins) and their passing defense ranked near the bottom of the BSC last season (for the most part the BSC is a pass first league). If I had a say in preseason rankings, I would not put much stock in incoming recruits and more in returning players…but that is just my :twocents:

Cannot remember where I read it, but

think Northern Colorado will be the 2013 Homecoming game

And Southern, Oregon will be high school band day

Hope the 60th annual Causeway will be hyped up big time as even the Causeway has been down in terms of attendance. Just 12K last time the Causeway was at Hornet Stadium with both teams having poor records.

Marekting is key to get atttendance up until the Hornets begin competing for champioships. Consistently winning will go a long way in terms of fan interest

That leaves SUU and NAU for the admin to figure out some kind of a promotion/give away to get people to the stadium.

Potentially i think we could end up 3rd/4th. We do not have either EWU/MSU on our schedule. We have Montana and Poly, but I think we compare favorably with Montana in terms of skill positions. 2nd year of Peterson's offense.

Thoughts? Does DLine by committee become the achilles heel?

The DL by committee worked well last year, problem is we lost some size up front so the rotation will not have the depth and size as it had last season.

As far as where we finish in the standings, I’m not sold on higher than middle of the pack until we prove it on the field.

for promoting the SSU and NAU games

Perhaps a high school football player and cheer team night and a youth football and cheer team night.

I send ideas to the athletics dept. for getting the stadium as full as possible for games but recieve no response. Willing to help.

I have done volunteer work for Cal basketball and football and the events people at Cal always get back to me and ask for my help. And together results happen
And I'm not even a Cal alum.

Sac State has plenty of available resources in the community who are reaching out to help. They simply need to reach back.

Same with the Greemn Army coordinator. Ideas and help extended, no response.

I’ve gotten responses from my emails. You have to make sure that your email is sent to the right person.

When I send in feedback or an idea I blanket the entire admin, but the key people to include on the email are Wanless, Cheryl Boyes, and Becca Whitman. One of those 3 typically responds. Missy Matzen also is very good with responses to football/Hornet Club inquiries. I’ve also sent in stuff via a Facebook message and have gotten a response there as well.

I’ve never tried to contact Green Army so I have nothing there. I think the GA is more student organized and run so I wouldn’t expect much feedback from them. My understanding is that the Green Army is more focused on getting student turnout up and are more “boots on the ground” type of organizers. Student turnout at football games has been much better than when I was a student so they are doing something right.
