10 days til NAU @ U of A.

Have the Jacks fans who were here last year arisen from their moping slumber and realized that NAU is returning a pretty good team? I predict the games @ U of A, Montana State and Cal Poly to be the toughest. Southern Utah's had NAU's number now going on two seasons if I'm correct. EWU, Cal Poly and MSU all lost a lot of talent, have suffered their share of injuries or should punch their schedule maker in the sack...I don't see any of these teams going through conference unscathed. U of M is bound to be more with it than last season but the Griz can't count on guaranteed wins like they used to. Sacramento State is always good for a tough game and a few upsets each season. UND has 7 home games (their toughest ones) and only 4 road games which favors them to do well. Big Sky should be fun this season.

8-3 is my best guess as to NAU's final record. Hope I'm right...or wrong and they finish 9-2 or 10-1 instead.

Anyone going to Tucson on the 30th...Bueller...Bueller?

bueler here and i will be in tucson for the game since i have season tickets for the UA.

hope NAU has a good season...
i saw some of your games on Fox sports az....not sure if they will be on this year

we have a giant ? at qb and no one has stepped up yet in practice...
we are also returning the nations leading running back..had about1900 yards....
we has one of the worst Ds in the country last trae but they should be much improved...

Not sure about Fox Sports showing Jacks football/bball/soccer/volleyball games again this year. I hope so.

Kadeem Carey's been a monster. I expect he'll put up good numbers vs. NAU and probably won't play the whole game. From what I've read, U of A is bringing in even less experience at QB than NAU is.

NAU's "green" @ qb as well. Cartwright got some field time @ the arse whooping to open the season vs. ASU. He started and got the win on the road vs. UNLV (yeah, UNLV isn't a football power but still a pretty big win for the Jacks vs. an FBS team) and then was out the rest of the year with an injury from then on. Kyren Poe has seen field time but not as a qb. The rest of the team is experienced though. Defense looks to be good this year as well as the running game (Bauman) and special teams.

Tempering my optimism with some realistic expectations (finish in the top 1/3rd of the Big Sky, compete in each game other than vs. U of A, be in the hunt for a playoff bid at the the end of the season).

The heat and the depth advantage (all those additional scholarships) tend to catch up with NAU each year vs. UofA/ASU. NAU hanging close for a half is no stretch but it's tough to envision for a whole game but you never know. Sacramento State has beat two Pac 12 teams in a row. Appalachian State did the unthinkable vs. Michigan. The possibility always exists of an upset.

Look forward to a week from today in Tucson.

It is also possible Kadeem does not play or does not start due to discipline issues relating to issues last semester but not likely.
If that happens we have other highly capable rbs but qbs is another story.
We will play somewhere between two and four qbs in our first games trying to find someone who seperates themselves from the others.
Rich Rod does not really say what his plans are.

Big Sky site has the TV schedule published but NAU site doesnt??
4 games on NAU TV/Fox Sports
1 on PAC 12
1 on Root Sports
1 on Max Media

They still have last years bb schedule up but since Fox Sports AZ has the fb games the will most likely also have the bball ones too.

uafan - I had forgotten to check the big sky conference website. Thanks for the scoop. 7 of 11 games televised...pretty good for a small school. Bigskytv.org (new name) also provides a pretty good online link to NAU road games and nautv's website also broadcasts home games live. Coverage ha definitely improved.

I read that the Wildcats haven't announced a starting qb yet. U of A has some questions at key positions as well. Looking forward to it, regardless of the outcome.

Rich Rod announced the starting qb(s) as -> BJ Denker or Javelle Allen or Jessie Scrogins
Denker will most likely take the first snap but look for all three to play and Nick Isham might be a fourth one to get in there...

Denker is a senior who started one game last year and played some spot duty when Matt Scott was injured...he has the most experience but no upside...Rich Rod and all of Tucson want someone below to beat him out...
Allen is a true dual threat redshirt freshman who is supposedly getting better in practice...
Scroggins was origanlly a 4 or 5 star USC quaterback who took some snaps as a freshman and then transfered to a CA community college suposedly due to academics where he put up ho-hum numbers before coming to UA...he started school in January but has not had full time due to foot surgery, concunsion, and then flu....
Isham is sophmore elgibilty wise who transfered from one of the Lousania SunBelt schools where he started 6 or 7 games as a true freshman... he does not have a scholarship at UA though...

So our qb position is waiting very impatienly for someone to win it...
