Northern Arizona head football coach Jerome Souers announced the addition of quarterback Connor Brewer to the Lumberjack Family. Brewer, an all-state and all-area selection while in high school, is eligible to compete for NAU this upcoming fall season.

"The most exciting thing for us is we think it's another example of the direction of the program," said Souers. "The fact that another top talent wants to come to NAU and be a part of what we have going on just shows where we're headed. Connor is obviously a very talented football player, but there's a lot more to it. He's a great student; graduating in three and a half years is impressive. Connor is a hard worker and just a really great young man."

Brewer, a 6-foot-2 Scottsdale, Ariz. native, comes to NAU after a two-year stint at the University of Arizona. Prior to his time with the Wildcats, Brewer spent his first collegiate season at the University of Texas, where he redshirted.

So frustrating to hear the comments of Jerome Souers. "The direction this program is heading"????? How long has he been coaching at NAU? Shouldn't he have gotten there already? Coach Jack Murphy can say that line over and over again, because he is a new coach who has been at NAU for 3 years and he is taking the program in a good direction, but in 13, 14 years Jerome is barely moving the program in a new direction? (according to him). It makes me laugh. We need a fresh new coach that will really take us in a new direction. We already have seen what Jerome has to offer and that is mediocrity.

Agree. I have been on the #firesouers bandwagon for awhile.

With NAU's location, we should be a top 20 team yearly.

There is certainly some talent present on the Lumberjacks roster.

Now they just have to find a way to coach that talent up, find the motivation for games vs. S. Utah/UND like they do against EWU/Cal Poly and figure out a way to limit their inclination for late season slip ups.
