Fresno State coaching job

I understand they are looking for someone that has previous MWC conference experience and knows how to run a clean program. Coach Rahe can do this and he has been successful building the wildcats into a winning program. He also has recruiting connections in their area. They have the money and need to win as they join the MWC. This reminds when the Lobos were looking at Coach Rahe. Let's hope he stays at Weber.

I read yesterday ( and again, not sure how accurate the source is) that Randy Bennett is a leading candidate for this job. Reggie Theus is also supposed to be at the top of their list.

Bennett's name comes up for just about every opening......

I understand that both Coach Rahe and Coach Verlin both former aggie assistants are on the list of candidates for the Fresno State position.

All of this speculation is exactly why AD's prefer to do everything ahead of a firing. My guess is that Utah and Fresno St already know who their coaches will be. When Bennet withdrew from consideration for Utah, it may well be that he had accepted an offer somewhere else. I also suspect that if Randy has been offered something and either accepted or declined, that information will not be out until all parties want it out. Lately, these things are not open processes. The public only hears about it long after the dust has settled, and the dust hasn't settled yet, my friends. :twocents:

Honestly, I really don't see Rahe going anywhere, especially to Fresno St. First, Weber has better facilities than Fresno State. Next, tradition and fan base is far more extensive than Fresno St. Third, the team he has coming back next fall has the potential of being very special. Fourth, Fresno can't offer enough to sway him. Finally, Rahe is building a very strong program here and has the backing of the administration. He would have to completely start over at Fresno St.

But, I could always be wrong too.

You must be kidding me when you say that Weber State has better facilities. They have seven year old arena with luxury boxes which seats 16 K. The bulldogs are joining the MWC. The salary is twice what Coach Rahe makes at Weber. Fresno State will invest what needed to bring a winner on the basketball court. Weber's budget is no where near the budget at Fresno State.

I hope Coach Rahe stays but this is a step up from Weber State. Remember the MWC had three teams in the Big Dance this year.

He already turned down Boise for double money last year.
He's not going to Fresno, the soon to be bottom dweller partner with Wyoming of the bball conference...
If Rahe leaves Down the Road it will be for a larger step up like his buddy Boyle did to Colorado...

After hearing from coach Rahe today, I am 99.99% sure he will remain with WSU for at least another few years. As of today, he wasn't planning to go anywhere. He is only focussed on taking the Wildcats to new hights. He's got a great bunch of guys coming in and the future looks bright for him in Ogden. Attendance has gotten better by about 1000+ per game every year that he has been here. The athletic department is doing everything they can think of to help in that effort. Jerry is ready to commit more money to marketing and more and more boosters are working to improve scholarship donations and recruiting budgets. Sometimes it seems a little slow in coming, but the community is really getting behind Randy and his staff. From the looks of things, the students are starting to come back as well. Its just getting better and better.

Honestly, why would he leave with the team he has coming back next year?

Wayne pulled out of consideration. He is staying at UM.

A report indicating that Fresno State might have found their new coach. The report was not final though. Also, WYO has their new (or should I say returning old) coach in place.
