Frm PSU Coach Walsh named HC at Cal Poly

Well I find it ironic that the former Cal Poly coach was hired at Army and Walsh was at Army and is now going to coach Cal Poly. I must also note that Walsh didn't have much success as the offensive coordinator and for the last few games of the season, Army switched to traditional triple option offense much like the one Navy is successful with. I would think that it wasn't his choice to work in the triple option as Army has tried to run a "pro-style" offense the past few seasons.

To revive the home and home series with Poly would take the flexability out of our schedule.

We already have 8 BSC games and davis built in plus at least one FBS game. If we tie up the final game with Cal Poly we would be unable to add a second FBS game if necessary or have the option of adding a lower division team to get an additional home game. I know that Poly has been crying about their schedule because of the lame "League" that they belong to but that's not really our problem. Right now Poly is kind of the odd man out.

I agree with Green Laser, let Cal Poly dig themselves out of their own hole. They should have thought about that dilemma before joining their current "League".

I thought I remember hearing Sperbeck said he will not play more than one FBS team a year and that he wanted to get Poly back on the schedule in 2009.....

I knew I liked Sperbeck. Now I like him even more.

I could go either way, I like the in-state rivalry aspect and the fact that they bring a lot of fans to NorCal when the games are in Sac. But, I dont like losing the possibility of playing some other OOC opponent, one from the south maybe.

The more in-state rivalries, the better. If they did decide to add Poly to the schedule, would the home games be opposite those of the Causeway Classic?

This is interesting. Makes me wonder, though, if he'll actually schedule us or if he'll skip us to get PSU instead.

Sorta blows the theory I heard that Cow Poly was going to hire a female....

Why wouldn't he want to schedule us? We could never beat him while he was at PSU.

Next year would be the best year to catch them as they will probably instill a new offensive scheme. And their big guns have run out of eligibility.

Some guy at the gym I go to posited that theory.

It's bound to happen sooner or later. There's already been a female coaching a men's pro basketball team, and there are scattered females coaching at the HS and college level as assistants. Why not a college football head coach?

GD! Is nothing sacred! Are they going to integrate the teams also? I can just see it. "15-yard penalty on the defense for unnecessary groping, 1st down."

He plans on still running the triple option. He ran it last year at Army and is bringing in a OC that has run it at two different schools.

You are right about losing some of our big guns though. On offense we lose 4 four year starters (WR Ramses Barden, WR Tredale Tolver, SB James Noble, OL Stephen Field) and also 3 two year starters (QB Jonathan Dally, OL Pat Koligian and SB Ryan Mole).

What are you talking about? There have ALREADY been individual female players scattered here and there. There's at least one quasi-professional women's league (http://www.iwflsports.com) with a great team in Sac (http://www.sacramentosirens.com) that won three titles in a row not too long ago. There are females already in the coaching profession.

While I'm sure you're just being facetious, it's time for these antiquated attitudes to go.
