FSU's Jalen Saunders to transfer. Is Sac St a possibility?

Since he's a jr. I expect for him to be looking at Big Sky teams so that he plays immediately. One poster on the barkboard mentioned Tulane, I don't know why. But I suspect he might want to join former bulldog teammate A.J. Ellis. Also, the fact that a WAC experienced QB is the top gun at the moment and favorite to start in September might just convince him to sport green and gold.

Hopefully Jalen is homesick and will come our way. You can bet Sperbeck, Peterson, and Ellis are trying like crazy to talk this kid into coming to our program. He would absolutely tear up the Sky and make a name for himself, but I would imagine he has played himself into a transfer opportunity to a PAC-12. Will he decide to sit around without snifing the field for 21 months (Dec '11 to September '13) by transfering to an FBS school? That remains to be seen...

Wow...I would love to see this, but doubt it will happen. He has a redshirt year available and can use that to transfer to another BCS school. As for Tulane, that is where the old Fresno St WR coach ended up...coach Williams I beleive.

Side note...Saunders, Fresno St's Harper and Cox (sac st) all played youth football together. I even think that Fresno St QB (McDade) and maybe DB (Wilson) may have been on those youth squads as well.

Speaking of WRs, it would have been nice to have had this JUCO transfer as a hornet WR under Peterson's O. He just signed at UN Kearney (DII). Previously, was at College of the Canyons (Sta. Clarita, CA). He has good speed, separation and vision. He and Knowles would have made a good WR pair; one, a power catcher and one, a speedster, respectively.

Chris Rivas- WR, 5'11, 185lbs.

Joe Davidson even chimed in on the idea. It seems like a long shot, but it would be awesome if he became a Hornet!

"...Saunders can return to Sacramento – he seemed right at home on Sac State's field turf when his prep buddy, Armond Armstead, held his NFL pro day – and immediately give a boost to an offense, designed by coach Marshall Sperbeck, that likes to stretch the field.

There is mutual interest, too, although everyone involved is keeping things close to the vest.

Saunders wouldn't have to sit out a season at Sac State, since he would be switching from Division I to Division I-AA.

This fall, the Hornets will have quarterback depth, a running game that features power and speed, and a veteran offensive line.

All that's missing? A deep threat."

A few of my thoughts on the subject.

1 - Sac St is now running a spread and the slot position is where Jalen's size and speed would be utilized. This is the same reason he doesnt want to stay at Fresno .
2 - Since he has a redshirt year, i am pretty sure there are a few Mtn West or even Pac 12 schools that would wait a year for his speed.
3 -Personally i wish he would stay at Fresno and catch 60 balls this year. He has the speed to possibly get a chance at the next level, but it will not be as an outside WR...only in the slot

There is absolutly no reason Saunders wouldnt have a chance to play at the next level if he attended Sac State.

Look at the guy EWU had a few years ago, he scorched the BSC and single handedly gave EWU the FCS Championship. He was the edge that pushed them over the top.

He could play here immediately, stay close to home and re-write the records book at Sac and the BSC.

Of course not. Was John Gesek chopped liver? Did Lonie Paxton not earn a Super Bowl ring?

Of COURSE you can play in the NFL coming out of Sac State.

I wasn't saying that going to Sac St wouldn't mean a chance to go pro...what I was saying is that Saunders came to Sac St he would end up in the Slot position, just like he was going to be used at Fresno St...that isn't where he wants to be, according to him, his father and my neighbors dog.

So what I was trying to say, if he is going to remain in the slot position, why not do it in the program he is already in? no need to transfer. Hence my comment that he might as well stay put, because if he makes it to the Pro's he will be a slot receiver.

P.S. I know the family pretty well, so maybe I will say pretty please to see if they will come... :thumb:

I beleive he was up in Washington visiting the Huskies this past weekend. It's VERY VERY unlikely he comes to Sac State. Three reasons.

#1 - Has a redshirt year to burn on a transfer - if he used his redshirt then transfering to FCS would have been likely as nobody wants to transfer and loose a year.
#2 - Already established himself as a solid performer at an FBS school - Most kids who transfer down usually do so, because of lack of playing time for whatever reason (talent, coaching changes, etc) not the case here.
#3 - Doesn't want to be a slot reciever in the spread - Based on his size and speed he would be a slot in Sac St spread offense, same position he left Fresno St

Sorry guys...just my :twocents: on the topic

According to several sources, Saunders narrowed his selections down to Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Washington, and Sac State... ultimately choosing to sit out a year and play for the Sooners...

well on the bright side that is an impressive list of schools to be mentioned with

Not a surprise. With a redshirt still available, he had plenty of options. Best of luck to him.
