Wonder where we would fit in? Without at least an overhaul of the visitors side would we be considering moving into FBS. We know we have a good enough program to move into this division but our facilities are lacking. Could the two be tied together (behind the scenes)? When we are televised the camera's are on home side thus the eye sore of the visitors side is what gets the most views...embarrassing. When we are the only game on tv/ESPN vs SHSU the national audience may be impressed with our play but will think of us as a second class program looking at our track/visitor side. Second class program reflects on our academics as well.

Without major realignment a level playing field in a 2nd tier division, and playoffs for that division, I hope not.

Getting relegated to a second-tier within our own conference would be absolutely catastrophic for the football program. Simple question, do you want your conference games to be against Montana, MSU, Idaho, etc. or UNC, Southern Utah, etc.

Once the split happens between the Big 5 and the rest of the FBS happens, our ability to move into that "Second-Tier" of college football will primarily be based on our ability to improve our facilities. Facilities and budget are the two biggest things holding us back right now. I'm really hoping there's some big donors out there that are going to help us kick-start this Gateway Project. If we don't get something going in the short term we may find ourselves left out in the cold.

The Gateway Project is key to staying with the top half of the conference long term. I think that this kind of talk will help speed up the process and create a sense of urgency.

Some real interesting stuff said on this on egriz...We Need The Gateway Project done ASAP!

I have never been a huge fan of the Gateway project as I just question our financial support and I'm not sure if we would draw 12k+ fans every game. I would rather see our east side bleachers completely redone to accommodate for more room but not spend $50 million + trying to do it. But....if we have a plan for the Gateway project, and I'm sure we do, to keep EWU's name in the running for a move up to FBS or at least not a drop down if a realignment happens, then i'm all for it.

I think its just a matter of time before the Big 5 conferences realign and leave the rest (its not like they haven't already), and that leaves the rest of the FBS where? They are going to have to invite some FCS schools and/or conferences the opportunity to move up and I would hope EWU and other teams in the Big Sky would be ready for that. Right now, I don't believe we have the seating capacity for the FBS requirements, so something has to be done. I also believe we need to add 1 or 2 womens sports. We should add mens hockey, but thats another discussion in itself...

I think a lot of better FCS programs are eventually going to be left with a choice if the Big 5 realign, and we'd rather move up and stay in the "2nd" division, than stay put and essentially move down to the "3rd" division.

My thoughts exactly. If Gateway is not going to happen any time soon, then let's at least get a plan in place that is going to be realistic to improve the stadium and upgrade capacity.

Move the track!!!

Get rid of the east side bleachers and put in "real" seating!!

That would be enough to get the ball moving, and make things way less of an eyesore when we are on tv!

Stadium expansion is one thing, adding sports and the related facilities are another. Does anyone out there have a clue as to how large the EWU athletic operating budget would have to increase should a Big Sky FBS conference be created?
