Hmmm...well this is news.

Replacements?? I'm sure there are a couple of Big Sky AD's thinking they are a natural fit for this (I'm guessing around 8-10 are thinking they have a great shot; including ours). Personally, I think the Associate Commissioner of the Conference Ron Longhery (sp?) will probably get it and why not? He has done the work and has been around for a while. Seems like a good fit.

BSC Staff, Ron Loghry, Jon Kasper, Tanner Gooch, should be interested & capable, with Loghry being senior and most likely? :coffee:
PS. It states in the release that the Presidents Council will select the replacement, as is normal for a conference, so it really boils down to what the 13 (?) feel. If a current staffer isn't desired by any fans, I would guess it's best they let their respective college President know their feelings, wouldn't you say? The chairman of the Council, SUU President, seemed quite fond of Fullerton's management. :twocents:

What makes one capable of being the commissioner? If that means that they will do the same thing that Fullerton was doing than I doubt most of us would want a person like that.
I would hope that they would hire someone that has little to zero connection to the Big Sky so that they can inject new life into the conference.

I'm all for bringing in some outside talent and letting them clean house. We really need a fresh perspective on things. This is the perfect opportunity to clean up several long standing problems that have existed in the BSC.

CLEAN HOUSE!

I want to add one more thing.

What the public gets is a press release from the organization that is always quite vanilla. It may be mostly true or completely false. We just don't know, and will never know the full truth. Everyone involved is given the company line and that is all you will get out of any of them. The same has been true of the basketball tournament fiasco. Everyone, all the way down to the waterboys, have been given the company line and, when asked, will only repeat what they have been told, or lose their jobs. Many of us like to complain about coaches and administrators not being totally honest with us. However, they really can't, and keep their good standing in that organization.

Whatever Fullerton's true reason for leaving is, it really does not matter. Our presidents just need to take this opportunity to hire the right person for the changes that are needed in the BSC. The ADs need to listen to their coaches, the presidents need to listen to their ADs, and the presidents need to act in the best interests of the BSCs future. :coffee:

The company line, coaches speak, conference PR, all being understood, I'm with the last part, "the presidents need to act in the best interests of the BSC's future, but the chain of "listening" should go beyond being limited to just Coaches/ADs/Presidents...take a look at the broader scene on where the conference stands on a national basis with practical logistics in mind, how about asking for fans input?

The inside "chain of listening" led to the "Road to Reno" decision, at least per the "company line". Accountability and transparency are valued virtues, look no further than the current political scene & voter's rath, let alone a fair amount of some BSC fan's rath!! :twocents:

I like the idea of new blood. After 20 years, we need someone who hasn't been, is tainted the right word, by Fullerton. I'll say it, but I think Doug did a lot of good things. Yes, he has done some absolute bone-headed things too. Not joining the Western Consortium for Refs was a terrible idea. Last night is another great example of that bad decision. No, he was not behind the Crap to Reno, that was pushed by the Presidents. I've heard if Chuck or Montana's President really would have voted no, it never would have happened. So...I hope the payout to the schools is worth it.

I think a couple of AD's could be strong candidates. The guy up at Eastern has done some miraculous things and really continues to do things unimaginable for the Eagles. I'm sure the Griz AD would be considered too, but he hasn't been there that long. Does he have the experience? Another AD, could be Jerry. I think he would be a good candidate (did you read that Jerry, I said GOOD, not above-average lol). Still my biggest issue with Jerry is that he isn't hitting up every avenue available to him to generate revenue. Revenue moves the monster and without it, nothing can happen. But, facilities are fantastic and are only going to get better. APR is strong across the department and graduation rates are high. Each program is either competitive or on the cusp of becoming competitive (Volleyball?), and he has done a really great job modernizing the department. Yes, we have a TV deal and are getting a great Adidas Deal, but those are because of Dame more than anything else. However, without Jerry, who knows if Dame would really be closely connected to the university. Could be an option for the Sky if they want to stay somewhat in house.

Tal you gave me a great idea. Pick one of the AD's to place sit for a little while and then make Dame the commish once he retires from the NBA.

I don't think Jerry has done a bad job as AD. But there has never been a better time to elevate the Weber State brand than right now. I am not sure that he has done enough to strengthen things within the community. I would label him "Just Enough Jerry"
