Fulton on the team next year?

As I watched Fulton play his 8 minutes last night, I started to wonder if he is going to be on the team next year. Last night was the most action we have seen from him in a long time, but it was a 40 point blowout. With Bolomboy and Hill next year, is there going to be room for Fulton to get more minutes? He has looked lost, slow and rusty lately. I thought he looked better last night and enjoyed seeing a good 3 from him. Thoughts?

Earlier this season, I wondered the same thing. That being said, Fulton is a valuable member on the team as far as depth is concerned, especially if somebody goes down next year. Considering he will be a senior, I can't imagine he'd transfer somewhere else (assuming it's a DI transfer) and sit out a full year just for one more season. As far as the rust goes, anyone would look rusty when you only play 1-2 minutes per game, if at all. We've all seen him with regular minutes and know his worth, which is a lot when he's healthy. :thumb:

I hope Byron "The Sultan" Fulton sticks around, If we worked on his speed and agility in the offseason, maybe even a little bit more muscle, he could be another Otis.

i agree with wildcat. hopefully it was that knee injury he had before the season started. plus he is a senior to be i believe that is kind of a waste to can someone in that situation. he is a good student and good teammate as well. he is likely graduating next may.

if we have 1 too many players for next yr's roster i do not think it is fulton that is voted off the island, my opinion.

i think we will see fulton make a comeback and win most improved player award next yr if there is such thing.

I believe that Byron has already used his red shirt year. If he were to transfer, it would be to a D11. I don't see it happening. However, playing time will be hard to come by next year. We will have Bolomboy, Fuller, Fulton at the 4, with Hill playing at the 3 and 4 spots. It's a good problem for Randy to have. :thumb:

With all of that said, at least one or two guys on the team this year will likely not be back next year. I don't think we will hear anything about it for at least a month or two, after the spring signing date.

im not a recruiting expert but arent there rules about how many you can sign in a given span of time? for example you cant just go sign 12 new players every year. if this is correct, then losing a senior to be could be a waste vs a fresh or soph who has years left. anyone actaully know?

Didn't Randy have to clean the cupboard when he first got here and had 7-9 sign his first year?

Sounds like it's time for WSU Compliance to chime in on this one.

I don't believe there are limmits in BB like there are in FB, other than the 13 total grants. As far as I know all grants are for one year and are either renewed at the end of the year or not. The NCAA has talked about adopting a limmited 4 year grant rule, but I don't think it was ever passed. :twocents:

Scholarships are for one year at a time; usually they are renewed by the coach year to year.
If a player is not working out, the coach can pull the scholly. A player also can leave if they wish, renouncing their scholarship after a season.

In rare circumstances, the scholarship can be pulled and player released in mid season.

I think we will see Fulton back next year. He won't lose playing time, at least I don't think, to Fuller, who like Hill will be able to play both the 3 and 4 positions (definitely a nice position to be in...two big and athletic bigs, who bring different traits and abilities to the hardwood...PONY EXPRESS OGDEN STYLE!!!). Fulton is a true 4. He was a lot quicker last year. His knee has been bugging him all season. He should be fine by next fall and have a solid Sr. season. Bolomboy will be the starting 4 though. It is really nice having Berry who could play the 1, 2, or 3. Weber can go big, fast, and spread the floor. AWESOME!!

Ask and you shall receive: there's no limit in basketball on the number you can sign in a given year (absent a conference rule). There used to be a 5-8 rule in basketball that limited signings to 5 max in a year and 8 total in a two-year period, but that doesn't exist any longer. The only sport that has NCAA-established signing limits for a given year is FBS football.

You're right on the first part. However, multiyear scholarships are now permissible.

Not entirely sure when it went away, but it was sometime before the 09-10 year when I started out of law school.

I really don't think Fulton will be leaving the team. Stinks for him that his playing time was cut in half, especially after how much he played last year.

Not to mention the fact that he was Freshman of the year in the conference two years ago. I think he can be a "spark off the bench" type player next year. How many 4's can step out to the 3 point line and knock 'em down like he can? Plus, he does have some good low post moves.

I really liked watching him play last year (he really helped the team with all the injuries we had) and as the new comer of the year also. I wish he would have got some legitimate playing time in the Big Sky tournament. I think his experience against Montana and in the tournament would have served the team well, but when you have Bad Boy Bolomboy sitting on the bench its a hard thing to justify I'm sure.
