Game ball to Coach Graham

The offense will take a lot of the accolades for being brilliant today, but credit the defense as well. The D looked like an AIDS quilt draped over the field; a patchwork of guys with very limited experience and others playing totally out of position. Even with all of Montana State's offensive stars (McGhee, Bleskin, Kirk) playing flawlessly, the D held them to only 29 points. Sometimes it's all about finding a way to get a result, and the D sure did that today. :notworthy:

Agreed. I felt early on in the game with the way that the O was playing, if we could just find a way to get a couple stops on D, we'd win the game. Kudos to the D for those few stops they made to give us the breathing room to break away.

Mission accomplished Coach Graham if your goal was to hold MSU to 500 yards offense, 30 1st downs and 4 td's. Defense had to endure 37:23 possession time for MSU so they were out there a looooong time. Kept DM under wraps only allowing him to go 31-37 for 330 yards(and I int) and keeping Kirk(he must have broke a dozen tackles at least) to just 100 yards rushing. I thought he'd get at least 200 after watching him the 1st half. Also slowed Bleskin down after a big 1st half...he only got 116 yards...he's really good.

Any time our D holds someone to under 30, we're going to have a very good chance at winning the game.

That said, really hope some of these starters get back into the fold.

Do I sense some sarcasm, Observer? MSU was ranked 4th, DM is a senior and 3 year starter, our secondary was decimated with injuries, our offense is a quick strike offense that puts the defense right back out on the field (hence the disparity in TOP) - so yeah, I have no problem celebrating and pointing out their successes!

That's just it, we basically played without a single true safety all game long. And Montana State played pretty much as well as they could have possibly played offensively. It should have been an absolute trainwreck... an apocalypse of sorts. Yet we held them to 29 points. Job well done!

TJ Lee, the 5'9" 175 pound safety! Who knew???

Agreed. A little sarcasm is in order. Best thing about the D effort is our young men learned they really are good and our two or three deep's can play with the big boys. Nice adjustments at halftime to stop the run, period, and make DM beat us through the air. The other half of this equation is the relentless pressure our offense puts on the other team offense. Hard to score a TD every possession, just to keep pace.

IMO ya'll don't seem to know how deep this team is in the comparison to the competition. EWU has every reason to dominate and it is far better to expect WAY more from this group on the D, than to loser limp about how many injuries, how young or how accomplished the competition may be.

Let's get with the program and be dominant all the way to Frisco.

TJ played great and QB'd the backfield. Weatheroy played safety in HS and is 6'2 190 I think and had 8 tackles. Bo Schuetzle has played safety and had 5 stops. Zamora played safety in HS and had 5 stops as well. Zach Bruce was thrown in there a couple of weeks ago and did yeoman work. The key to the game was stopping the run with the front 7, which didn't happen in the first half.

Eastern has a lot of talent, it showed today. The Inferno is a HUGE advantage, our offense is a HUGE advantage, to win a championship the Defense will have to become a HUGE advantage, thanks to a little adversity EWU will be deeper than any team we face all the way to Frisco ( a little homer). Feels like 2010 when a true freshman (Brown)stepped up in the playoffs replacing all world Taiwan Jones. Lightning can strike twice.

One thing that I was thinking about in reference to our defense. Think about how quickly we are scoring in most of our games. Our defense is on the field A LOT. Not saying I'd want it any different, but with how quickly our offense scores they definitely aren't doing the D any favors.

Damn, I hate it when that happens

Just read the SR article on the post game. Coach Beau's remarks about "peddle to the metal" mentality were AWESOME. It's a must read.

All EWU fans on this board want the same thing.... a return trip to Frisco. The rest of the way is about mindset and Coach B and the players have it in spades now :-)

47 seconds in Coach B "it's about mindset now"

We can argue the difficulty remaining in the BSC schedule (imo, not very difficult after watching Cal Poly again tonight) although no one should sleep on anything yet. The current deficiencies in numbers at safety are the opportunity that will give EWU the depth to work through what is surely to be a challenging run to the championship. Not superstitious, so don't mind saying it.

High-class problems. It's like saying you hate how much gas your Bentley burns at cruising speeds.
