He had 2 years left on his deal.
I guess coaches cant point to making the Big Sky tourney anymore as a bargaining chip to keep their jobs.
Will he be the only BSC Coach to get fired this off season?

Red Face is gone?! YIKES!! What will the Vikings do without him?? I thought for sure that PSU would wait to can him until after the new Viking Pavilion was done. I guess administrators got sick of dealing with his JC carousel. It does make some sense. PSU wants a clean start with their new facility and they want a better team in place for when the new facility opens up.

I'll be honest, I thought Red Face was safe for at least one more season. Murphy at NAU was the guy I expected to get the boot this year. His teams haven't been the best for the past two seasons. I guess NAU is going to give him another year to figure things out.

I'm surprised they fired him with 2 years left on his contract. Their new facility is set to open in 2018, yes? To be fair to him, he inherited a disaster from Ken Bone. APR Hell with loss of scholarships, practice time, post season ban, and off the court problems. To PSU's credit, they gave him time to get that crap taken care of. Still, with a 15-16 record this season, it makes me wonder if they don't have their eye on somebody already.

I don't see any more coaches fired in the Big Sky this season. Evans at ISU has to be on the hot seat, but I can't believe they can afford to buy out his contract, for however much longer it is. Murphy at NAU might be feeling some heat, but I bet he gets another year. SUU and UNC both have new staffs.

There may just be some things under the surface, that the general public is not aware of. I remember a PSU fan once saying that PSU was going to be the next school invited to the PAC12. The expectations of their fan base must be quite high. Maybe 15-16 is not getting it done when you are expected to be final 4 material. At least ISU, NAU and some others are a bit more realistic. :coffee:

What fan base would that be, Olds, they average less than 1,000 fans a game.

Evans at ISU has two more years on his contract (he signed a 4 year agreement in 2012, and then a 3 year extension in 2014). He already has O'Brien beat in the loss amount, but I'd be surprised if he's gone before his contract expires.

Murphy signed an extension in 2014 which keeps him at NAU through the 2019 academic year (I'm assuming he has 2 years left on his contract as well). I agree he's there at least one more season.

Doing some quick math, Portland State's season average is only about 6% of the PAC-12's average (7,700-ish). And their total attendance would bring down the entire conference's average attendance by about 500 fans (7,200-ish).

I'm certainly not saying that this particular PSU fan was sane. I thought it was quite funny at the time. The PSU fan was serious about the issue and he made it sound like it was a consensus among PSU fans. Probably a little like the guy up at UND. It happened in a year when PSU had a good football team and it was that fan's opinion that the BSC was holding PSU back, that they deserved a lot more prestige. Fans get a bit delusional sometimes.

What are Bengal fans overall opinion of Evans? I really thought that Evans would get things turned around up in Poky and have been somewhat surprised by his results. Yes, in my opinion, ISU would have been a better team with Ingram, but stuff happens (is he getting his year back?). He was a major part of ISU's success last year.

Talking PSU Basketball...I was trolling their board and came across some posts that mentioned Bone. Does PSU bring back The Bone or does the new AD clean house and bring in someone else new? Maybe she hires Duft???

Final thought...Unknown Fan you don't post often, but when you do, it is a beaut.

Lets hire red face as an assistant just to piss Tal off.

Is Duft really head coach material? Maybe at the NAIA level.
He is a big man and a coach... So there you go, your new 'BIG MAN' coach. He has produced a lot of NBA big men, right? Certainly more than our 'small man' coaches.

I don't think we would be complaining we get at least two extra conference wins every year.

You just gave yourself away, with that statement.

PSU would be fortunate to get a coach with the resume of Eric Duft. He is certainly head coach material. I don't know when, but he will be a great HC when it happens. He is personable, knowledgeable, a good recruiter, a good organizer, a good teacher, and a good communicator. He has the energy and fire to do a great job for who ever hires him.

Most of you don't really see what he does because he is always in Randy's shadow, quietly getting the job done. Go to a few practices and you will see part of what he does. :coffee:

Does putting a big man into the NFL count? If so he did a pretty good job with Julius Thomas.

Maybe coach Hill should hire him. Of course, stomping on turf just isn't same as stomping on hardwood. Do they have a whining coach designated in football?

To be fired like he was, I wonder if there were some NCAA violations that just haven't made it public yet? Or perhaps some other administrative/legal issues?

I was a little too vague with that, my bad. What I meant to say was IF Duft was NAIA material and got hired at PSU, then we would get a sweep every year on PSU. Sorry for the confusion.
