I know the team is going to be packed next season, but I really hope that Gittens is able to have one more year on the court with us. Looking at his Twitter, he really wants to be back out there playing.

The team will be stacked. I really hope he comes back. He is fearless.

He's not coming back as a Wildcat
http://www.standard.net/Weber-State...-seniors-richaud-gittens-injury-transfer.html
Because his injury happened so early in the season, Gittens was granted a medical redshirt and still has a year of eligibility left — but it won’t be used at Weber State.

“I’ll graduate this year, but next year I’m going to graduate-transfer and I’m going to leave Weber,” Gittens said. “I’m still going to watch these guys because they’re still my family. I still have my brothers on this team that I have to talk to and look after as well. It sucks that I have to leave, but I know in the long run it’s going to be a good decision for me as well.”

Gittens does not yet know where he’s going, but said he will not go to another school in the Big Sky Conference.

Neither Gittens or head coach Randy Rahe would speak directly about the reason the senior won’t remain a Wildcat. But, even with his departure, WSU appears to be oversigned in its allotted 13 basketball scholarships next season.

I just read that story, too. Obviously, the scholarship allotment could be the issue, but I wonder if there's something more going on here. I'd think that Randy would prefer to keep an experienced senior on the roster for next season if he had a year of eligibility left. That sucks. As frustrating as Richaud was to watch play at times, we certainly could use him.

Definitely. I wonder how different the team would be playing if we hadn't lost him

Randy keeps harping about how tired the team is, considering he isn't using a deep rotation, so I have to think that if Richaud was playing, that would be less of an issue right now.

This Sucks!!!

It is probably the very best thing for Gittens. He can now play his senior year at a place where he can be a starter and a star. He would play for us next year, but would be a limited reserve, a role player. I like him a lot and like his athleticism and intensity. I think this is a great move for him, as a player and as a person. He is going to get a year toward an advanced degree, a new perspective on his education, and a chance to be a star on a team where he can start.

In Trevon Ary-Turner we are getting a more skilled player for that spot. Win/win for everybody.

I plan to follow Gittens' senior year, where ever he ends up. I wish him nothing but the best. :thumb: :thumb:

I am fine with all of this and i understand it, but on the other hand Randy shouldn't be allowed to use the "we are young and inexperienced" anymore when he is gently pushing very talented veterans out the door. Nor do I want to hear in interviews how WSU "just isnt as talented" as other teams in this league....If this will be such an upgrade for WSU then those excuses need to stop! :twocents:

Agreed, except very rarely are there other teams in this league that are more talented, across the roster, than WSU.

I didnt say there was, I am saying Rahe's no longer allowed to say that after loses to EWU, North Dakota, etc....

AJ;

I don't like those excuses either. I've always thought that excuses are like armpits. Everybody has a couple of them, but they all stink.

Sometimes, when people feel as though they are being attacked over some failure, they will try to explain it away with 'excuses'. Coaches, in general, seem to like to rely heavily on just a few of them. As fans, we get a little tired of it. Sometimes, you will hear more truthful answers in more private settings. I'm not trying to make excuses for excuses, but coaches are under a little pressure from fans and media to provide those excuses, and I understand why they happen. I force myself to look past all of that. :coffee:

I am aware of the "private settings deal, I have been to roundball club more than a few times...
On your other point, I would not classify WSU as a place where the Coaches get a lot of real "pressure" from fans... I lived in SEC and Big12 Country, those are PRESSURE jobs for Coaches. I wouldn't classify any sports job in Utah as really a lot of pressure. Maybe Kyle at Utah

Can we keep this thread WSU basketball related? Maybe move this irrelevant threat to the other topics forum.

WSUfan, I think AJ's comment is completely relevant. He's providing context to the discussion of Randy's job and the pressure that comes with it (or lack thereof).

Maybe you missed my sarcasm...? A hot thread/topic of "Fire Rahe" has been moved to the other forum. Hence, anything that even questions Rahe's ability as a coach needs to be moved to a different forum. Apparently it is not okay to discuss both sides of his coaching ability, and if you want him fired or mention it, the mods just move the thread, which is typical. If you want to voice your opinions about Rahe, go else where, at least thats the tone from the mods around here.

Only flowers and positive opinions (of the mods) are allowed here. Talk about needing to grow up... Geez.

Don't get it twisted. I never once said that Rahe should be fired. In fact, I don't think he should be fired, he is a really good coach.... What I AM SAYING is this... I think it sucks that Gittens is leaving. He is a team first guy, busts his ass, stays out of trouble, gets his degree,is very talented, in short he IS about everything that a Randy Rahe program is about.
I understand things happen and that brings me to my 2nd point:
I DO NOT want to hear ANY excuses next year about our youth and talent level when you are "nudging" guys like Gittens out of the door. :twocents:

One of the best things about Gittens, and a thing that I will miss, is his positive personality. All of my experiences with him are friendly and positive. He is simply a good person and enjoyable to be around. Where ever he goes, that will go with him and help him to be successful.

He is the fastest runner on our team. If he had a mind to do it, he could be an all American wide receiver. I'm sure that the track coaches would want a shot at him as well.
