Godfrey seeks funds for velodrome in Ogden

The enclosed velodrome and field house would encompass about 170,000 square feet. It will include an archery range, six championship tennis courts and a 250-meter velodrome. The oval within the center of the velodrome could be covered with turf, providing a practice area for Weber State University's football and lacrosse teams. The facility would seat 3,000 spectators and have space to house the Boys & Girls Clubs of Weber-Davis, Patterson has said

Go Godfrey!

WOW, schools all over the country are falling to pieces athletically, and Weber continues to throw more and more and now even MORE money into thier athletics.

ITS GREAT TO BE A WILDCAT

Got to give Props to Ogden city leaders too, they need to work together to make WSU and Ogden the best they can.

What a stupid idea. We're in a huge recession where governments and school districts everywhere are under water, but lets go build a velodrome (whatever the hell that is). Believe me, there is no way in hell that this thing ever gets built. And Weber is never going to contribute money for something like this. Ideas like this are part of the reason I gave up and moved out of Ogden.

Is this really going to happen?

Godfrey doesn't have the best success rate?
This is just another pie in the sky dream. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Pre-Godfrey Ogden, top venue was the delapidated Ogden Mall, with 3-4 stores still open. I don't live in Ogden but I am close. I think that the new direction Godfrey and the city council has taken has been for the most part sucessful. I think as crappy as the economy is Ogden has weathered the storm pretty good. The makeover to a "outdoorsy" place of play and work has proven to be a pretty good selling point.

I doubt the dew tour would have make a stop to Ogden before

The World is Taking Notice of Ogden
Here’s what others are saying,

"A playground for adrenaline junkies…" Wall Street Journal, May 2006
"A stable economy and high ethics from its work force…" The Economist, June 2008
"The best new place to be…" National Geographic, January 2008

Welcome to Ogden. The town that Rock and Ice Magazine listed in its Top 10 Climbing Towns (Sept 2008); the place where Men’s Journal (March 2007) said you can "Do it All, Whatever the Season". Outside Magazine (Aug 2008) called Ogden "unpretentious and adrenalized", when it listed Ogden in the top three towns of Where to Live Now: The 20 Best Towns in America, and the New York Times (Feb 14, 2009) stated, "Ogden, Utah, is on several lists today including the best place to do business, the best economy, and the hippest city in America."

I am not trying to make this political, I just think that WSU and Ogden need to continue working together.
