Besides Hawaii you should roll in the WAC. We have not taken a beating like that against an FBS team since Boise State. That's is saying a lot. I don't think you realize that you beat a pretty good Weber team and absolutely embarrassed them. You are not just good for Utah State, you are top 25. Turbin and Chuckie are absolute BEASTS! You guys should not pass the ball until you have to (in the WAC you he probably won't need to much of time). That rushing attack is close to unstoppable(ask Auburn). Not that the passing game is bad, just the rushing attack is that much more potent.
For Weber, I feel like that game put you guys in your place more than it put us in our place. I think Weber is still a very good FCS team, especially since Wyoming rolled against Texas State and we were able to keep up with you guys until you decided to A: Wake up and B: Run until we could stop it (we couldn't). Coach Anderson had to run up the score because of the halftime score. Utah State maybe loses 1-2 more games this year. What happened to our offensive playcalling? Even the ESPN3 announcers complained about it. Hammer gets an A in the first half and a F- in the second half. He didn't set the guys up to be successful, nor did he call plays to show confidence that he still believed in his offense. He had the USU defense confused with misdirection and countering their aggressiveness in the 1st half, and then decided to try to run against it in the 2nd half. It didn't work and he started playcalling like a deer in the headlights. The defense needs to go back to square one and talk about gap control. Our safeties looked absolutely terrible. Absolutely worthless on run support. Weber's got stiff competition in the Big Sky and could win it all, or could end up 4-5th.

USU is damn good and it is happening at the right time for the Aggies. This might be enough to get them into the MW. They will beat both WYO, CSU, Fresno, and possibly Nevada and Hawaii; they'll beat all the other WACcies; especially Idahlol, San Hoe za, and Tech. That defense rocked us last night and we all know Weber is a solid team. With GA at the helm that defense will only get better. What shocked me the most was the play of their QB (true freshman); I knew Turbin was going to run wild; and how fluid that State ran the spread with their running attack. 600+ yards and 440 of them rushing. I dont' mean to go off again, but Cookus and Swan should be fired just for allowing those numbers with the defensive players we have back.
Good job State...beat BYU. To bad you aren't playing Utah this year. I'm pretty sure the Aggies would win.

travelingagg said:Yes, great game. I was impressed by the size of Weber's line. They look like they'll help WSU through the rest of the season.
I also noticed Trevyn Smith was helping out with the coaches. I remember he seemed like a pretty good running back a few years ago. How does he stack up with Josh Booker?
Good luck this year!

I did not know Smith is back. Booker is still young and may turn out to be a very good back. Smith was a beast and best running back in school history. Both are small so I can see the comparison. If Smith was bigger he wouldn't have been over looked by bigger schools. He was a big recruit for Mac. He rushed for something like 5,500 yards in his 4 years with his best year being 1,600 yards and 28 touchdowns. It will be many years before those records get touched. The 2nd most yards at Weber is Nick Chournos with 3,500.

Thanks for the info. I knew he was good, but I didn't know he had set records at WSU.

Smith was very explosive, had his way with big sky teams. rushed for over 100 against every team and some a number of times.
it was too bad though seeing him take a hit to his numbers his senior yr where he rushed for just 1,000 yds and 7 touchdowns. he had some off the field issues and maybe a few injuries. his backup made all-american though that yr and is now on a mission with 2 more yrs of eligibility left.
our 2008 team was like nothing we have ever seen, at least not in my day. beating montana was unheard of in ogden and we dropped 45 on them in a monsoon, smoked montana st in a blizzard at their place which is usually always a loss. pounded #16 nau at their home coming.
we had a qb pass for 4,400 yds, smith had 1,585 yds and our receiver had about 1,600 yds too. we got to the ncaa quarter finals in the playoffs after beating #3 cal poly in 1st rd, but they made us play montana again, hard to beat one of the best teams in the country twice, we lost at their place and montana went to the national title game.

One reason why he didn't run as well in 09 as he had in 08 was the fact that Marcus was gone. I love how Smith always gets so much credit, but we always forget that he had an All-American FB, perhaps the best FB in Big Sky history, leading the way and was running behind one hell of a line. Yes, he was talented, but you've got to give credit where credit is due.
