Good morning, Damian Lillard burned down everything

DAME! I'm pretty sure Damian Lillard broke the Horry Scale.

Lillard with the dagger last night

It just keeps getting better for Dame and Weber State!

For any of you HS players out there, all you need to know is that every pro scout in the world has been, and will be, watching what is happening at Weber State. In the last few years, almost every player graduating from WSU is playing professionally, or at least got a chance to. Our record speaks for itself. If you are a talent, and want to be seen, Weber State is the place.

 Damian

 Weber State

Have to admit, his shot Friday night was huge for Dam, the Trailblazers and Weber State! That was high drama at a very crucial point in the playoffs!

A major shot in the arm for the program. Hope it starts showing some benefits on the recruiting trail!

"Last year I was pretty close to that Weber State program and the Big Sky Conference. I helped broadcast a game from the Dee Events Center in Odgen and I was able to speak with some of the Weber State basketball personnel.

I basically asked around as to what kind of impact Damian Lillard's rookie season in Portland having?

They told me a pretty cool story:

In Damian Lillard's rookie season, the Trailblazers star got off a chartered plane and went to a high-school basketball game (I think it was Texas). At any rate, Damian Lillard took time from his hectic schedule to stay for the whole game and talk to a potential recruit about coming to Weber State.

I can't imagine every player in the NBA doing that!"

I'm fairly sure that Dame didn't initiate that contact and that the coaches didn't direct him to do anything.

It often happens that a potential player wants to talk to a former player in making their choices. In this day of Twitter and other social media, a prospect might seek out this kind of contact on their own. As far as I know, a potential recruit can initiate contact with whomever they choose. It is a bit like checking references. It is most likely that the prospect reached out to Damien and not the other way around. :coffee:

Sorry, as much as Rich Winter claims to be "in the know". He loses a little credibility with this article. "He kept running into Wayne Tinkles Montana Bobcats", come on Winter.

I am tired of hearing "I hope Damians influence pays off in recruiting" or when is it going to show some dividends. The truth is that it has been paying off for 2-3 years. We are getting high caliber kids they weren't even looking our direction. Most of them mention that they want to be like Damian Lillard and develop under Coach Rahe. It is just going to get better for Dame and the program, he is Mr. Clutch right now in the NBA. He is blowing up all of the myths that the top high schools basketball recruits have been told the last 15 years. Where are all the critics that said he had a low ceiling on draft night?

This what Braxtons dad told the Denver Post,"Damian's been great with his time, and he's given Zach a lot of good advice," Keith Braxton said. "That's his guy. He wants to be the next Damian Lillard."

That is one reason why I think there is no way in hell that Zach Braxton redshirts next year. I think he was told he would have an opportunity to play out of the gate like Dame did.

Freshman show up next month. We'll be able to figure out who's going to contribute next season and who's hype. It's cool not to have to explain to people where Weber State is located. We could have a tremendous nucleus for the next 3 years!

I'm hyped for this class, but can't ignore the huge transfer rate in D1. I hope these kids can handle expectations. Entitlement seems to be rampant in college sports! We started slow out of the gate last year, hoping we scheduled quality non-conference opponents this season!

Coach Rahe was just on 1280 talking about Dame. They usually put interviews online, he said a few new things about Dame that I hadn't heard him say before. One gem was that Dame's biggest fear as a freshman is that he would be considered a ball hog. Coach said that he would have to pull him aside and tell him to take over.
