Good political role for Viks FB viz UO, OSU

We can probably optimize play versus UO, OSU in football if we Viks think of ourselves as alligators snapping at the heels of these developed in-state programs, as we ourselves continue to develop.



It could be affectionate snapping or something more adversarial, depending on the political temperament of the game.

The important thing is to show well when playing those teams. Getting beat by 40 points does nothing but reinforce negative stereotypes about being a second-tier program.

When Eastern started playing UW and WSU regularly, there was a great fear that bad performances against those schools would cause a negative perception among casual fans. Fortunately, Eastern has been competitive against the Pac-12 teams for several years.

Good game against Cal last year. Heroics and fine play. Need to make that the focus and keeping building in that direction. Nice to see our Columbia River cohort is the favorite for the national championship this coming year.

Another thing Portland State can do is to not only take up the cause of the fabled Cascadia Independence Movement, but also take up the vanguard role.

Portland State need not serve as an antagonist to the US, but rather serve as the repository of the political treasury for Cascadia for all Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Notice the colors of the flag (called "Doug")? THOSE would serve as excellent school colors in such case. We already have two, and the third can be easily added.

This will gain the support, respect and admiration of UO, OSU, UW, WSU, UBC and much of Europe. In this scenario, Portland State is an unquestioned and favored political leader. A university of such stature merits a medical school, law school along with superb engineering and business.
