Good evening to everyone, my name is James and I live in Frisco about 10 minutes from Pizza Hut Park. I am a huge fan of FCS football and Im very excited about the game on Friday. First off, congrats on a great season and making it to the NC game.

I just wanted to come over to your board and welcome everyone to Frisco and see if anyone has any general questions on the area. I would be happy to answer them and I hope you guys enjoy your stay and enjoy some southern hospitality! Frisco is a very nice up and coming community in the northern part of the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex.

Safe travels and please let me know what I can do.

PS: For the record, we had the date of Jan 7th long before the Cotton Bowl did.

BigTex...great timinig...any suggestions for bbq/cold beer around Frisco/Dallas and Forth Worth. Also, things to do around all three places that one shouldn't miss. Conversly, things to stay away from... Thanks!

I'm wondering how many locals are going to make the game. It's be nice to have a large turn-out the first year they're hosting the game.

Big Tex, thanks for swinging by! Whom is your FCS team of choice normally?

also, what's the story with the the toll freeways. it looks like you either have a device that takes payment automatically (aimed at locals) or they mail something to the registered owner...how does that work for a rental car? I did also notice a section of the freeway will be closed next weekend...more info here.

Sorry for the late response, I wanted to compile 3-4 answers into one post. First off I attended Stephen F Austin and suppor the Southland Conference.

Ok so as far as food and drinks, you will be covered from all ends. If you are staying in Frisco or around the football park, everything around it is new. Below are some recommendations, I have divided them based on your age and agenda.

Basic Fun Food Places
Rudys BBQ- about half a mile from ballpark, Texas staple with smoked BBQ. I go about every two weeks.

Babes Chicken House- half a mile from ballpark, this is a locally owned favorite of mine that is family style sit down. No menus, you order either Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Catfish, Pot Roast, or Smoked Chicken. Everything is served with honey and bisquits, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and salad. Its free refills on sides and the best part is its BYOB so you can bring whatever you want to drink. Its only $10.99 per person. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Mattitos Tex Mex
Across the street from Pizza Hut Park, very good tex mex with outdoor patio

Blue Goose Cantina- Next door to Pizza Hut Park, one of my favorite Tex Mex joints, awesome margaritas and fajitas.

Main St. Burger House- next to Pizza Hut park, great for quick and easy sit down burger and fries

If you are looking for a nicer sit down with your spouse

Josephines Italian Bistro- Next door to Mattitos, its an upper tier Italian restaurant for anyone who is looking for a nice sitdown with some wine. Food is terrific

Randys Steak House- About a mile east of the stadium on Main St. This is a local favorite, its a steak place in an old historic building and always gets rave reviews. They have a nightly piano player and is a great atmosphere.

These are all places within 1 mile of the stadium, Frisco is a big place and everything centers around Stonebriar Mall so anything you could imagine is near the mall which is about 5 minutes from the stadium. I wont go into detail but places i highly recommend around Stonebriar Mall that you can google

La Hacienda Ranch- Great Tex Mex!
Glorias Mexican Food
Texas Land and Cattle- Budget friendly steak place with great food, under $20/head
Blue Mesa- Authentic Southwestern Food with a tequila bar
Pasados Tex Mex
Jasons Deli
Buca Di Beppo- fun family style Italian food if you have a large group

For you people who like chain restaurants we have plenty around the mall area

Cheesecake Factory
California Pizza Kitchen
Outback
Olive Garden
Chilis
Applebees
IHOP
Original Pancake House

ok i decided to do two posts to not beat anyone down.

as far as the tollway situation, we have removed all tollbooths and its all done electronically now. All you do is drive on through, it will scan your rental car and they will bill you at the end of the month. Its about .75-$1.20 per toll, not too bad. you just go online and pay your balance online. They will be doing construction and closing two lanes I believe this weekend. I dont think it will affect you too much because the toll booth is further south from Frisco. They are removing the final tollbooth and the timing sucks!

as far as good watering holes and bars, heres what I recommend

Next door to or walking distance from stadium

Londoner
Mattitos Tex Mex-they have an outdoor bar
Lochranns Irish Pub- next door to Mattitos and across the street from the stadium
Pizza Hut- yes Pizza Hut, dont make fun, Pizza Hut is based out of Dallas and this is a concept store, Its an upscale bar with full menu and its next to the ballpark. Honestly Ive been multiple times and they have cheap drinks and tons of flat screens. This isnt your Dad's Pizza Hut. very nice

Around Stonebriar Mall(5-7 minutes from Pizza Hut park)

Down Under Pub
Irish Rover
Third Base- great sports bar next door to the Dr Pepper Ballpark(baseball stadium)
Kotta Sushi Lounge- Great food, great drinks- about 2 miles from Pizza Hut Park

for the poster above asking about places around aLoft hotel, I would recommend the Irish Rover, you can walk there and its a fun Irish Pub with tons of TVs and great food!

Also for the poster asking about good BBQ, well we are in Texas so throw a stone and you will find one but a few of my favorites you can look up are:

Rudys- next door to Pizza Hut Park
Dickies- has become a minor national chain but it started in Dallas
Spring Creek BBQ-not far from Mall
Sonny Bryans- in Galleria Mall
Hard Eight- not far from DFW airport
Angelos in Ft Worth

I hope this helps, keep the questions coming. Looks like the weather will be perfect, sunny with high around 57, low of 35. Should be in the 40s at gametime.

One thing for everyone to remember when asking about stuff to do. Im just giving you things to do in Frisco. The DFW metroplex is VERY spread out and has 6.5 million people so it has everything you want, it just might take you a while to get there. If you do have time and want to get out and about I would recommend:

Ft Worth Stockyards
Downtown Ft Worth
Downtown Dallas/6th Floor Museum where Kennedy was shot
Northpark Mall or the Galleria Mall
take a tour of new Cowboys stadium in Arlington

Thanks Man. Wear a red SFA hat if you've got one. We need the support.

thanks a ton for this. I hadn't gotten around to researching things to do in dallas yet, this is a nice list.

Thanks Big Tex! We're staying near the Galleria. How long can I expect the drive to Frisco to take, and do you have any recommendations for places to eat or things to see in that area?

on a normal day without traffic, getting from the Galleria to Frisco via the North Dallas Tollway should be about 10 minutes, 15 minutes to Pizza Hut Park.

Now since their is some construction around Parker and the Tollway in Plano(in between the Galleria and Frisco), I would avoid going up there at peak 5pm rush hour, Im assuming you will be there early and tailgating so if thats the case you will be fine.

If you are wanting places to eat/drink around the Galleria, you have a ton to choose from.

In the Galleria mall you have:
Grand Luxe Cafe
Mi Cocina

I would highly recommend you go about 2 miles north of the Galleria to Belt Line Rd. Thats a part of Dallas called Addison and Belt Line Rd is known as Restaurant Row. Its got anything and everything you could imagine including tons of bars. I went to the Addison website and it had 174 restaurants featured if that gives you an idea.

check out this website for a full list. http://www.town-mall.net/restaurants/addison_restaurants.html

a couple of my favorites:

Champps Sports Grill
Blackfinn Pub
Dukes Roadhouse- home of the 32 onz beer
Texas De Brazil-
Macaroni Grill
Go Fish
Flying Saucer-over 300 beers and live music
Lawrys the Prime Rib-upscale steak place
Nates Seafood- Badass cajun food with live music and cheap beer
The Melting Pot
Snuffers Burgers- dallas staple, great burger and cold beer

yes its not that bad, im assuming you're staying right off the tollway. if not then you might want to add 5 minutes or so. the speed limit is 70 on the tollway so you will be fine.

I forgot to mention one of my top restaurants thats in north Plano. Its in between the Galleria and Pizza Hut park.

Its called Chuys Tex Mex. Its super good and has great drinks. Also most entrees are under $10.

Safe travels everyone and best of luck in the game!

authentic. well almost every tex mex place i mentioned above serves authentic dish's. i will list my favorites

more authentic:

Mannys- downtown Frisco
Christinas- 2 locations, north frisco and next to stonebriar mall

traditional tex mex but still has authentic food:

Chuys
Glorias
La Hacienda Ranch
Mattitos
Pasados
Abuelos
Blue Goose

Also one quick note, you guys might want to go a little further south to plano to an area called the Shops at Legacy. Its off Legacy Dr and the North Dallas Tollway. Its about 2 miles from Stonebriar Mall and about 5 miles from Pizza Hut Park

Its a very neat area with shopping, speciality stores, and tons of restaurants and bars

taco diner-athentic mexican
mi cocina-upscale tex mex- very good
Gordon Birch Brewery- great homemade beers and good food
Raa Sushi
Benihana
Bobs Steak and Chop House(known as one of the top steakhouses in the US)
Jaspers- very good upper scale american cuisine
Fireside Pies-(if you get a chance, go there. Its an upscale pizza place with full bar, its awesome!)

check out shops at legacy's webpage, http://www.shopsatlegacy.com/

I think around 12,000 tickets have been sold so far. Hopefully it will pick up these last couple of days and more people show up and buy tickets at the gate. This is a possibility since the game is not sold out. Word is around 5,000 Delaware folks and 2,000 EWU folks will be at the game. Although I expect our numbers to be bolstered some by the local Texas folks. EWU fans need to be loud out there!

Any tailgates happening ?

I bought tickets to this back in November and am glad to see EWU playing in it since I watched them play in Lubbock 3 years ago against my Red Raiders.

Good Luck tomorrow.

DTR

Oh for sure. I'm bringing a medium sized crew up right at noon. Our former eagle athletic association president is a tech grad!

thanks for all the info here texans. I had a great time, I loved the Fort Worth Stockyards....wish i could have spent more time there.

also really enjoyed the mexican place El Feninx, good tex mex
