The Griz are 6-0 and have played 4 away games and play @ MSU on Sat. UM is destroying its opponents.

In Big Sky play...

89 ppg, opponents 72 ppg
margin per win: 17 pts

only non blowout was a 92-89 win @ PSU

griz play 5 of 7 final games at home including wsu, ui and isu for the final 3. the dont travel to ogden.

It is a shame for them there is no hope of hosting because if they win at msu they are going to be 9-0 as their next games are suu/nau at home.

if griz are going to dominate...and i realize its a long season, but...our goal might need to be to finish 2nd to get the other bye, or 3rd to avoid the 1 seed in the semi. dont get 4th :bad:

3 weeks. Ago Portland st was the goat of the BSC now it is Montana...My bet is the team that wins the conference title gets knocked of in the tourney

Wait. You are totally contradicting yourself. You are the one that preaches that you would rather see us blast a patsie at home than get basted by a P5 school on the road.

Right now, the Griz are playing great and lead the pack by two games. Will somebody knock them off? Who knows. I think that I will stick to my guns and say that nobody will go unbeaten in the BSC this year. I may eat those words, but that is my prediction. I will also say that UM's schedule looks favorable for them to win the regular season championship. Unless they fall apart, I expect to see them as the #1 seed in Reno. Filling in the next three spots for byes is a crap shoot at this point.

Yes, he gets all hyped when he sees West Coast Baptist on the schedule. Olds gets excited for those games too, so he can see the development of bench warmer #8.....

For those who want another D1 game to be added to our schedule, (me too, BTW) the BSC will go to a full regular season slate in 2019. That should help a bit. I also know that we have Wyoming coming in here sometime in the next few years. I haven't seen a schedule yet, but I believe we have BYU and UVU coming in next year, with USU at Vivint. Although, I believe that there will always be one or two stinkers on the schedule, I would be happy if they keep it under three.

Yes, I am more concerned about wins at the end of the season than I am about the preseason. All wins are good, but not all losses are equal. That is probably why nobody wants to go on the road against a peer team. Like I've said before, sometimes you have to do things that you don't want to get the things you do want. :coffee:

Firstly, I would rather Weber play a similar level team like say any Big West, WAC, Summit league or even MWC team than any lower level school, or get curbstomped and embarrassed by the Dukes of the world like some of you would prefer. Something that I have said over and over and over and F#$#ING over again.

Secondly this topic is about Montana, not Duke or Kentucky, and Montana is the best team in the conference, so to be the best in the conference you need to beat them, try to keep up.

Because you choose to misinterpret what I am saying doesn't mean I contradicted myself.

But whatever you need to make you feel better.

Griz are definitely playing tough. They aren't invincible but it'll be pretty tough beating them.

Just to chime in on next season's OOC. We all know that Randy is going to play two beats. One before a major tournament in November, and another before conference. We all might as well get use to it. However, next years home schedule is shaping up to look pretty good. Weber will have BYU, Fresno St., and UVU at home. There is also a chance that Weber can buy another DI beat like Arkansas Pine Bluff and might get lucky and get a team willing to come to Weber to start a home and home. We also know we have USU at the Beehive Classic and that we are going to play in another Mid-Major Tourny where we are assured 3 games. Not a bad OOC. I'm sure a money game is in there somewhere.

Is the Big Sky stronger or weaker this year? Will the tournament champion, hopefully Weber, be able to do anything in March? Montana is good every year, but I don't think anyone in our league is invincible. Portland State posed like they were great but have faltered. They are still dangerous, but there are no frontrunners at this time. We have to keep improving to the point that we are contenders in March. We can get there, but no guarantees this year.

The Big Sky is way stronger this year than last year. It is not even comparable.

Next years home schedule looks good. The following year should be good as well, due to adding an additional home league game. I have heard rumors that the BSC may move to limit the number of non D1 games allowed on member's schedules. The NCAA has also made moves to force the larger programs to leave their home floors on a more regular basis. It remains to be seen how effective these moves might be, but at least there is discussion on the matter. :coffee:

Yep. KenPom had the conference ranked in the top half yesterday, 16th out of 32 conferences. Last season they were something like 26th.

Does the NCAA have any power to really affect this kind of change? Do they really want to? They seem to have climbed into bed with the majors to the detriment of everything else.

I can't tell you how frustrated I get with the PAC's (the U leading the way) pathetic preseason scheduling. And I think it hurts them in some ways. They get the RPI they want, but when you peel the layers back, they are usually mediocre (again this year -- just like they have been now for years). No warrior teams (maybe Arizona), just a bunch of fake records generated by camping on their home courts all preseason. I swear if the PAC gets more than 3 bids (and they should only get 2 this year) I'm going to ... (hell, what am I going to do?) ... complain a whole lot more.

And even while I say that, the NCAA will reward them with 5 -- making my point. Why go on the road in the preseason when the tourney committee rewards you for staying home. Give the PAC 2 bids this year and that's a move they'll listen to.

I hate the PAC. They let the whole West down in so many ways. Conference of champions my ass ...

Does the NCAA have the power to change things? Yes, they control the Big Dance and how teams are seeded into it. Do they have the guts to change things? That is the real question. They have threatened to do it. Now they need to follow through.

mr pirate,

thank you for this post today! i dont often laugh out loud sitting at work. we need to consider the wise words of mike wilbon from ESPN's PTI. he always refers to the NCAA being run by Barney Fife which actually makes a lot of sense.

Hahahahaha, very funny.

Can the winner of our supposedly stronger conference get out of the first round come March?

Please Olds, could you outline some of those "changes" that the NCAA has made to change the scheduling? I think this is another time where you read something saying they "should" do something but I don't believe that anything has been changed at all....

I don't think they made any rule changes. The only move they made was to come out publicly to say that they were entertaining the idea of restricting the top seedings to teams who played a higher percentage of OOC road games. I think they just expected teams to hear their words and respond. P5 schools will never respond until the NCAA actually refuses to give a high seed to a team who purchased 10 of their victories. To my knowledge they did not even talk about what an acceptable percentage of OOC games should be on the road. Like said earlier, the NCAA is gutless when it comes to policing the P5 programs. There will be no rule changes until all of the mid major Presidents band together and force the rule changes. Of course the P5s of the world will hold a potential black ball over the head of any G5 program who has aspirations of moving up the pecking order. It is not a level playing field. :coffee:
