Griz @ PSU

The first true test of the BSC season.

We *should* win. UM has not looked good in pre-BSC play.

Fans, Fill Stott, Make noise.

That's not a good loss. Free throw shooting has been the achilles heel all year and it lost them another game. Unless it improves, the conference season will be tough.

PSU should have won this game.

UM was really hot shooting the ball in the first half, and we still had the lead. We could drive the lane at will nad I was thinking that we'd end up rolling them pretty good. Not so...

Team defense looks great, with the exception of the fact that we give the baseline to every team we face.

Weird subs tonight by Bone... Jenkins played nine minutes and it was nine minutes too many if you ask me. The 0:3 assist to turnover ratio won't get it done at the local ymca, let alone in the NCAA. Zero mintues to Coston as well.

New game plan of not shooting the three ball? Heck, Juma has been known to put up 9 on some nights.

Dare I say we were out coached?

I agree, the coaching moves didn't seem to make sense. However, I think Jenkins only played because of Sommer's foul trouble. Bone doesn't trust anybody besides those two at the point.

When someone gets 20 hitting 17-foot jumpers off his own dribble, guarded, sometimes you just tip your hat. Zone wouldn't do anything for that condition.

I complement Montana on their football errrrr wrestling errrrr skills, but given the history of Big Sky refs, in all reality, PSU needs more weight room time. PSU is definitely quick, and will win several games that way, but now that I remember making a similar quip about Montana State's "wrestling" team, you can tell what PSU will be in for Saturday and especially in early February. Perhaps the real problem is that too many PSU fans are familiar with "call-em-all" Pac-10 refs. There's no in-between out West.

I wasn't implying that zone would have handled the threes.

I was trying to convey that if every guarding attempt is going to be an all-or-nothing lunge grab for the ball, you might as well sit back and clog the lanes instead.

I am constantly baffled why Bone pulls Morrison out when he does. Right when Morrison gets into a rhythm, scores a few baskets and starts making rebounds, he pulls him out in favor of Julius Thomas. Julius is good for a freshman, but he is only 6'5" and can't contend with the good big men of the Big Sky.

I think it might have somthing to do with Bone's coaching style, which is a up-tempo run-and-gun style. Having a big center who is good in the post slows things down. We have the most talented big man in the Big Sky, and he doesn't get the minutes to get into a rhythm and dominate.

I think the refs didn't want the game last year to happen this year.

Good point about tipping the hat. How many jump shots did UM hit with less than 5 on the shot clock in the second half?

Also, Morrison needs to quit trying to use touch on put backs and/or when he gets inside position. Jam the ball in with two hands and do with with some freaking authority. He must have given up 8 - 10 points around the bucket by either putting the ball on the floor or trying to lay it in.

DJViking is right on in his comments. In my view, Bone was/is a bonehead, when it comes to his substiutions and playing time.

I think your answer, though, DJ, is that Bone's decisions are based on playing and developing "his recruits," and his favorites. In this regards, he has and continues to make poor, flawed decisons. As you note, he blew the second half, as Morrison was just getting back into the groove, with 2 early baskets, and the Vikes had a 7 point lead (I think) at that point. He needs to show a little more faith and confidence in letting his best palyers play themselves back into it. Ian Ruder's blog today noted this well. Bone needs to "dance with the who brung ya's," and not look to pander to "his boys," and risk losing games, as he did.

this is so typical

well....we will just have to beat them in Missoula

The Griz are on a bit of a streak right now. Hopefully we can put a stop to that and come home with a big road win.

Yes, I feel it too.

We need guys to shoot the lights out and put an end to the Griz streak of playing well.

I hope Juma brings his hot hand to the game instead of his foul trouble and limited shots...

You got the hot Juma tonight !!
Up by 10 at the half.

Big Sky TV sucks big time. No audio again tonight !!

GO VIKS !!
