Gubrud's Interception Problem

Isn't as bad as I thought.

The question came up in another thread that it seems he's thrown 6 picks into the end zone this year. Turns out, it was only four. That is four TD's negated, but at the same time, at least the opponent has to go the length of the field to score.

The most painful game was against NDSU, where both picks in regulation led to Bison scores, and the one in OT killed our drive, and even without a Bison TD, likely cost the game.

But overall, Gubrud has been tremendous, and most of the INT's have not led to scores (props to our D!) And four games in a row with ZERO INT's! Wow!

Wazzu Pick in end zone Opportunity to go up three scores
NDSU Pick from 50 yd line Just recovered onside kick
NDSU Pick 6 from 35 yd line Nick Deluca
NDSU Pick in OT Ouch!
UNI Pick from 25 yd line Set up UNI FG
UNI Pick from 50 yd line Set up missed UNI FG
NAU No INT's Woot!
UCD No INT's Woot!
UNC No INT's Woot!
MSU No INT's Woot!
UM 2 Picks Both at or in end zone
CP Pick from 45 yd line D forced turnover on downs
ISU Pick in end zone We Picked them shortly thereafter

I'd say 37 passing TD's against 10 INT's is pretty respectable. (I think that's right).

That said, I think he'd have a pretty decent shot at the Payton this year if he had a few less INT's.

*Edit* I just checked out his stats for the season...a little better than I thought.

Passing Yards - 3,782 (Has a shot to be a 4,000 yard passer on Friday).
Passing Yards Per game - 378.2
Completion Percentage - 69%
Passing TD's - 37
INT - 10
QBR - 174.0
Rushing Yards - 421
Rushing TD's - 4

Maybe it's just me, but for a long time, I have felt that EWU has always thrown more interceptions in the end zone. I have no statistics to back this up, but I have always felt this way every since Mitchell was quarterback. Maybe since Beau's offensive philosophy is spreading the offense, it has a weak point when all of the defense gets condensed in the end zone. Not really sure. I've always assumed that this was the reason we take so many shots at a touchdown from 25-40 yards out.

I think we just throw the ball a ton.

I don't have a problem with the occasional interception even in the red zone. When you throw as much as we do that's going to happen and our offense is good enough that you know they're going to get plenty of chances. The fumbles, though...the fumbles are a different story. Someone mentioned that the snaps were bad but it didn't look like it to me. oh well, hope we get that figured out and soon!

So much win. :notworthy:

I don't think it's a problem. He has natural football talent, and is outstanding in all facets of quarterbacking. The negated touchdowns or loss of possessions have resulted in but a single loss, this to another outstanding team. Our receivers' catching abilities are preventing some interceptions too. Bottom line, successful coaches don't mess with natural talent. Go Eags!

GG does NOT have an interception problem.

Mike really upped the game right there. Classy Mofo and it's so cool that he comes out and supports the team.
