Love this story:

Driving down the road with the asphalt crew in a dump truck with no air conditioning on a stifling Arizona afternoon, “I was riding in the middle and we went past this little high school out in the country, Queen Creek High School. The guy sitting next to me said, ‘Coach so-and-so at that high school just resigned — they need a football coach,” Sears said. “I’ve got my asphalt clothes on, and I said, ‘What did you just say?’

“Right then, something told me, ‘Jode, you need to get in your car and you need to drive directly to that high school.’ ”

He did. Without a teaching certificate, Sears couldn’t be the head coach, but he was quickly hired as the offensive coordinator for the football team, the head JV basketball coach and the head track coach.

All Sears needs to do is find some depth for the OL and the team should make a push to the Playoffs.

Personally, I think the most important aspects to a coaches success is selling his program to potential players. To me, by far the most important ability of the coach is his recruiting skills. If he can keep brining in the players who will keep the boat, not only sailing, but also, moving forward, then yeah, I'd say keep him. The bad thing is that we won't know how apt of recruiter he is for a couple of seasons. He must be okay, as an asst. he had a fairly solid defense at Eastern and he left them in good shape, so...

Regardless, Mac, and to a much lesser extent, Smith left Sears in pretty good shape. Weber should compete for the conference crown.

I agree that if we can get some bodies to shore up the OL, it should be a pretty interesting year. Mind you, anything can happen, but the ingredients are there for a strong finish. Hoping that the boys are training hard during summer, August 1st is 8 weeks away..... GO CATS!!!
