Heath Schroyer

First off, I'm a University of Utah alum who attended PSU for a short time pre-Schroyer days. I was very impressed what he did with the Vikes for the period that he was on the Park Blocks - but had to wonder why he'd take off to be an "Associate" head coach. Now I know that he has a long history with Steve Cleveland, but it seemed to me that given a couple more years with the type of success that he had established, he could have moved on to a bigger program - something like what Ray Giacoletti did...

And that brings me to: The Runnin' Utes need to get rid of Giacolleti before he runs this program into the ground.

How's Heath sound as a replacement? Is he really happy being an associate head coach - is Cleveland going to retire that soon? To me, he would be a great addition to the Utes.

Any thoughts on his position at Fresno? Other comments or insights?

My take on Schroyer leaving was this:

He missed his shot at the tourney two years ago by the loss to Weber State when we hosted the BSC tourney with a trip to the NCAA tournament on the line. I think PSU was the most talented team that year, but just had a horrible shooting game to start off the tournament. Due to graduation, it would be at least another two years before he had another shot at it. I guess if he didn't want to wait around, that was the best time to leave. One can only speculate.

Schroyer did a lot of good for the PSU program, and I was sad to see him go... I think he's a heck of a coach.

Greetings, fellow Utah alumnus.
a) Giacoletti does need to go.
b) Heath is not the answer. Utah should spend some money and pick up a great coach, not some bobble-head from the WAC.

Bobblehead? Gives me a good chuckle. Curious as to how this assessment was formed.

I don't get to watch enough, though I did seem to catch PSU every time they were in Boise. Some mediocre Boise teams dispatched Schroyer PSU teams. So I'm just asking...

Not sure if Bobblehead comes from all of the yelling, but I sometimes miss the emotion of Schroyer. Bone and Schroyer are like polar opposites.

I was there, and I wondered as well. Couldn't find anything in the press about his whereabouts; and he's still listed as a coach at the FSU website. Schroyer could have been on a recruiting trip for all I know.

Funny that Steve Cleveland seems to be the guy standing up when FSU is on offense, and the other assistant was up when on defense. Funny little system.

Should be interesting what happens with this hire, wonder what Burman's motives were on this hire.

They know each other personally from what I've heard.

I don't really understand the lukewarm take on Heath by some of you PSU fans. He certainly turned our program around after only a couple of years. Did you forget how horrible PSU was just prior to Heath's arrival? I'm not saying he's the greatest coach around, or that he'll necessarily do well at Wyoming (although I think he will), but let's give the guy a little credit for being successful in his lone D-I head job.

I think feelings about him are lukewarm due to the connection to that recruiting/scheduling scandal cracked by that Doyell idiot at CBS sportsline. Funny how he left being an HC for an assistant position not long before the story broke.
