Article speculates that the Fresno State top targets for HC are:

Jeff Tedford (Retired HC, Ready to Return)
Jim McElwain (Central Michigan HC)
Troy Taylor (Sac State HC)

Based upon Taylor already leaving a much higher paid position than the one he’s got now and both his past and recent comments regarding outside interest, I don’t see this job opening as any concern.

Hope I’m not wrong.

I think he believes he can transform SAC into Fresno, which means he’d eventually have the same job and not have to leave home for it.

Agree…. Troy T. going to Fresno State doesn’t make sense based upon his previous comments. Both him and his team are solidly anchored in Sactown.

If he were to leave before his contract expires I’d be shocked. It would have to an opportunity like CAL since he’s alumni and he and his coaches could commute.

They are a family of coaches with kids and our opportunity at SAC brought them home and together with his coaching family.

BHF/SCHF1: I agree with both of you. I'm not sure about the state of the Fresneck program, but it's certainly not the dumpster fire that is Washington, which Taylor correctly rejected. But Fresneck is practically a peer program, at least in recent years, particularly given the current conversation of Sac moving to the MWC. I don't see how Taylor would profit by this. He'd doing wonders at Sac, and I think he's going to either milk that for all it's worth or wait for a "Cal or better" program to knock on his door. Fresneck ain't that by a long shot. I also get the feeling that he could be a Tom Landry type coach in terms of longevity in the program should he choose that course. Forget about this one. Fresneck ain't worth the trouble, and I think Taylor knows that....

The Fresno gig would pay a helluva lot more. But, considering his willingness to take 300K less to come home (and his comments re: not being motivated by money), I’m not that concerned

Had Taylor really wanted a mid-major gig he could have just stayed at Utah or moved to another P5 program as OC and eventually landed one of those gigs all w/o having to take a significant pay cut.

While Fresno is FBS, it doesn’t necessarily have a higher ceiling of potential than Sac State. And it’s 180 miles South. (CAL is different and much closer).

Taylor specifically mentioned seeing a SAC Republic game and both he and Fresques imagining that atmosphere as a possibility for Sac State football.

Whether possible or not, I think Taylor believes he can transform SAC into the next Fresno or Boise and that’s the long term goal.

But circling back to the answering the question how Taylor would profit from a move to Fresno, it’d pay much, much more and it’d be a quicker, faster path toward a P5 head coaching gig (sans CAL suddenly opening up). Some believe Taylor would covet that path like most in his profession, while some aren’t as convinced that’s his goal.

Tedford officially hired by Fresno, but far more importantly IMO … rumor is Justin Wilcox turned down an offer from Oregon (which was eventually accepted by Georgia’s DC) and is negotiating an extension at CAL.

If true, I believe that keeps Coach Taylor in SAC for at least a few more years if he wasn’t already committed to that outcome anyway.

Let’s hope Taylor can retain Andy Thompson for a little while longer, as well as the rest of the staff.
