Hind sight is 20/20 - Drink the Kool Aid

Last year I think we all got our hopes and expectations a little too high. The cats did come through after a miserable pre-season. Hopes are high again for our young players, especially Zach Braxton. I haven't heard as much hype about an incoming freshman since Damian Lillard (There was some buzz around Wheelright too).

I remember hearing that this kid from Oakland was going to be really special. I wish more people would have drank the purple Kool-Aid back then. Dame played in front of a half full arena his entire career at WSU. If we had a crystal ball in 2008, and announced to the community that in 2014 Dame would be one of the most prolific and clutch guards in the NBA, I think we would have had a sell out every game.

I say drink the Kool-Aid and share it with everyone you know. Things may not work out with some of these young players and lightning may not strike twice in the same spot, but who would have ever thought Dame would become one of the best guards in the NBA. Sean Miller thinks that Bolomboy will be a player at the next level. I think that we have 3 or 4 players that could be NBA level talent. Lets fill the seats and get more fan and student support. I am drinking the Kool-Aid. We may start slow but I think we will win the conference. Who would ever think that the day would come when Sac State fans would be talking smack about being the best in the Sky? We can't let them win it all even if we are young.

Having seen both Damian and Jeremiah before ever having played a game at WSU, I can tell you that Jeremiah is more developed than Dame was at the same juncture. Now, will he develop the same way over his career? We really don't know, there is a lot of work that has to go on over the next few years. I know this, he is an exciting player to watch.

Personally, I think that all of our incoming freshmen have the potential to be game changers. Also, I know that Randy is excited about the JC kids making a big contribution to the team. I think that the fans are truly going to love this team. The system will stay the same, but the games will be exciting because the athletes are exciting.

As the excitement grows the crowds will get bigger. This team will be able to run and jump with anyone in the country. :coffee:

I have to disagree, as even with a crystal ball, I don't think the Salt Lake media would allow WSU the proper attention; as that is how the word seems to get out. It still ticks me off that Damianwas mostly ignored in favor of the "Jimmer".

Dame is getting a lot of ink now, and so is Dev. :thumb: :thumb:

Jimmer is also, just not in the same way or for the same reasons.

I don't like hype for the sake of hype, but I'm excited about Jefferson and what he can bring to Weber State! This is a strong recruiting class and if we get two of the players for 4 years it's going to be great. It's hard not to get excited, but I love the players that are coming in. Hoping I can catch some pick up games in June.

Jefferson can be special! Is this the year that we can red shirt a big? We have James, Joel and Ryan coming back! Might be smart to red shirt Braxton, get him stronger and up to par with our offense and in the classroom. After a year he should be ready to go! I think we have enough bigs to develop him for the future. Why waste a season of eligibility?

Here is what everyone needs to know about red shirting. It's a three way deal. Coach, player, and parent have to agree or it doesn't happen. If Randy is thinking about the possibility of someone red shirting, He will talk it over with the player and his parents. He will also encourage them to discuss it with him not in the conversation. If everyone is on board it happens. If not, it does not happen. I'm sure that if a player and his parents approached Randy about it, he would go along, if he could without hurting the team. Randy does not make decisions about this without covering all of the bases. And he really doesn't start to form opinions about it until he has watched them play and practice together for a few months. At this point, none of us knows who will step up and demand playing time next fall. It is probably best not to do a lot of speculating. All five of the freshmen could start, we don't know. :coffee:
