Nice work, Chaves and Co.

Just throwing this out there, but it sounds like we're going away from two FBS games in a season as Chaves mentioned he has one more game to fill in 2016 and is hoping to schedule another home and home for that year and 2017. Might coincide with Gateway?

Very keen observation, kalm. I sure as **** hope so. :thumb:

As much as I hated losing to SHSU this season, I was really pumped to see us schedule top flight FCS competition. And I think we will finally have their number this coming season.

Now we've scheduled another outstanding FCS program that seems to always field a strong team, even in their down years. As a fan, these are the kinds of games I want to see, and I have to believe that for the players, they want to be playing the top teams in the FCS. I'm loving seeing this kind of scheduling for EWU.

Wow, this is great. Home and home series with prominent FCS programs that will definitely have playoff implications. Great job by the Athletic Director with this and the Sam Houston series! I like these types of games. Too bad we have to go on the road for the first game of the series.

I'm glad we've got a home-home lined up, but why do we always play the pick of the litter? What's wrong with the Pioneer Conference? I like the easy wins on the sked, so you get to stay healthy and work your whole roster in.

Jesus, there's just no pleasing you guys. Last time I checked, getting a home/home with an FCS was something that many members of this forum had been shooting for for quite some time. First the SHSU deal comes through last year, and now UNI. If you're preparing the right way (and coach B certainly knows how to do that), then you embrace the opportunity to compete, regardless of who the opponent may be that particular week. I promise you nobody within the team is worried about how "good" a team is until the W is in the books. Great job to the powers that be for scheduling this matchup. Can't wait to watch us square off against both SHSU next year, and UNI the year after. Besides, we owe those purple ass clowns for the debacle in the 2005 playoffs.

looking forward to seeing UNI come to Cheney, I think every game we've played against them has been in the unidump.

Indeed. We owe these guys a beat-down.

Spade a spade  ? Dopa loves the SEC "play a patsy" model and has voiced that opinion on several occasions, not sure where "guys" enters into your comment. We all know this board is not effecting the decisions Chaves et al are making and he is riding this pony for all it is worth to get Gateway rolling. Prefer the home and home against good FCS teams to playing multiple FBS programs by far. May pull football fans in the area who may be borderline WSU, BSU or Idaho fans to come out and see a top competitive matchup. Maybe not. The biggest comment I get down here is how "bright" the field looks on TV, but after having visited this summer; Roos field is a GREAT football venue and the field only adds to the pleasure. If these home and homes get more non-EWU butts in the seats, more power to the process. Probably a big if.

I understand Dopa's point. If we are already playing an FBS and (as we know) the Big Sky is incredibly tough, why not schedule a weaker FCS team instead of making an always tough schedule more challenging? That said, I love this.

1.) Much better than two FBS
2.) I understand an FCS cupcake would help with a tough schedule, but as a fan, I'd rather see a nail-biter than a blowout.
3.) I love the optimism, but UNI/EWU probably wouldn't draw anymore fans than cupcake/EWU. EWU's performance, weather, and competing events are really all that matters for attendance.

Having played in the UNI Dome waaaaaaayyyyyy back in the day in high school, and being from that area originally, I have heard that the field conditions are much better than they were even 4 years ago. Was there for a visit with my son during the spring of 2009 and it was still the old flat surface, then they removed the old crappy Astro-Turf and replaced it with MondoTurf that summer.
I know that I will be doing my best to paint the visitor's side red and black for the game...starting my planning now so none of my hometown friends have the excuse that they didn't have enough time to plan!!!

Concur, this was a great move by the Athletic Department. If the Gateway comes within the next few years I would like to see us do away with the 2nd FBS game altogether.
