The Hornets football program to the national college football scene was not very well-known before yesterday, a mere speck on the college football landscape.
Playing the Beavers in Resar, in 2012, with 40,000 screaming fans, accustomed to winning plenty of games, (45-16 the last 10 years, heading in to yesterday to be exact), and where they haven't lost an opening day game in years, WITH a returning stud QB, AND a great HC, former NFL'er Riles, AND a 25 to 28 point underdog, visiting a legit Pa 12 program on their turf, well... HELL YES this is a statement game for this program. The Beavers O-Line have 300 pound tackles, a QB who completed 60 percent with 18 TD's and 11 interceptions, and beat a USC team last year 36-7. This team had 8 returning starters on offense. Yes, banged up, perhaps, but so what? It takes a helluva an effort to overcome those odds to WIN a game like this. And the Hornets did just that.
The Beavers are indeed a legit program, and will play teams ultimately tougher perhaps in the coming weeks. Riley will have his troops ready, and I expect the team to get better as the year moves on.
For the Hornets, well, they just shocked the football world, from sports books to Grant Napear. I'm reading here on the boards, on how the Beavers were banged up, young team.....and I say BULL SHIT. I'd really like to hear what crap Grant will spew and spin with this game. Cut the crap doubters, revel in this win. It's rough, rough, rough to win STRAIGHT UP like the Hornets just pulled off.
I was in the Sports Book yesterday up in Lake Tahoe, and the place was simply buzzing all over, with this win. People were in shock, couldn't believe it. In fact, a few supervisors I was chatting with assumed the Hornets gave it the old college try, and we're about to get beaten with that FG at the end. Well, that didn't happen Hornet and Beaver fans!
The Hornet pulled off the miracle at Corvallis, and nobody can take anything away from these guys. The Beavers are a well run program, solid middle to top program, with solid performances this past decade.
The Hornets have arrived my friends. They have a long way to go to be on any level with the Beavers traditionally, but this step was monumental now for pride, recruiting, potential, and faith.
HELL YES, WE HAVE ARRIVED!
