Hornet Win: We Have Arrived!

The Hornets football program to the national college football scene was not very well-known before yesterday, a mere speck on the college football landscape.

Playing the Beavers in Resar, in 2012, with 40,000 screaming fans, accustomed to winning plenty of games, (45-16 the last 10 years, heading in to yesterday to be exact), and where they haven't lost an opening day game in years, WITH a returning stud QB, AND a great HC, former NFL'er Riles, AND a 25 to 28 point underdog, visiting a legit Pa 12 program on their turf, well... HELL YES this is a statement game for this program. The Beavers O-Line have 300 pound tackles, a QB who completed 60 percent with 18 TD's and 11 interceptions, and beat a USC team last year 36-7. This team had 8 returning starters on offense. Yes, banged up, perhaps, but so what? It takes a helluva an effort to overcome those odds to WIN a game like this. And the Hornets did just that.

The Beavers are indeed a legit program, and will play teams ultimately tougher perhaps in the coming weeks. Riley will have his troops ready, and I expect the team to get better as the year moves on.

For the Hornets, well, they just shocked the football world, from sports books to Grant Napear. I'm reading here on the boards, on how the Beavers were banged up, young team.....and I say BULL SHIT. I'd really like to hear what crap Grant will spew and spin with this game. Cut the crap doubters, revel in this win. It's rough, rough, rough to win STRAIGHT UP like the Hornets just pulled off.

I was in the Sports Book yesterday up in Lake Tahoe, and the place was simply buzzing all over, with this win. People were in shock, couldn't believe it. In fact, a few supervisors I was chatting with assumed the Hornets gave it the old college try, and we're about to get beaten with that FG at the end. Well, that didn't happen Hornet and Beaver fans!

The Hornet pulled off the miracle at Corvallis, and nobody can take anything away from these guys. The Beavers are a well run program, solid middle to top program, with solid performances this past decade.

The Hornets have arrived my friends. They have a long way to go to be on any level with the Beavers traditionally, but this step was monumental now for pride, recruiting, potential, and faith.

HELL YES, WE HAVE ARRIVED!

Let's don't fall on our face against S. Utah.

That will be a mark if full arrival is correct or just a quick bungee jump. The team that worries me is Weber. They took Wyoming to the last play too, just losing as the clock ran out.

Good pont, GCM. SUU is still below everyone in our league (except, of course UNC and ISU). We'd lose street cred real quick with that kind of a letdown.

But I don't expect that a guy of Sperbeck's caliber will allow that to happen.

SUU is a bit better than you might think SH. they took EWU to the limit at the end of last year; i think turnovers at the end did them in. they started slow vs. South Dakota State last week, but finished strong to lose on the road by 3. they are tough at home and Sorensen is the best QB I've seen vs. Davis in the last couple years (with the exception of Kellen Moore). I expect Sac to win, but, they aren't UNC or ISU.

Ignore anything SH says about SUU. He has some kind of bias against then that predates my existence. :dunce:

And this win over OSU was huge...well it is monumental...but there is still plenty to get done. This program now needs to win and win consistently. We will arrive when we are competing for BSC championships and making playoff appearances on an annual basis. :twocents:

i think there are some similarities between Sac and SUU. The T-birds are a program on the rise, after a new coach took over a struggling program. FBS-transfer QB is leading the way, with some JC-transfers making quick contributions. big, physical front line that protects the QB well, and opens up running lanes...they make it hard to get to the QB without blitzing, and that can lead to big plays. Big, physical DL that can clog the running lanes and get pressure on the QB. Sac has more talent, especially on the offensive side.

Cedar City is a tough place to play. would be a more interesting game later in the season, after the SUU offense has some time to jell.

best QB i saw last year....and...oldest linemen i have EVER seen on a college team. the 'mormon redshirt' is being put to good use by the T-birds.

With the Grizzlies on deck, and the Hornets coming off one of the biggest wins in the college ranks, well, this is indeed a "trap-game" as they call it, coming up with the T Birds. The focus is going to be very tough on the Hornets, and a grind of a game might be expected.

The Hornets have the talent to win this game, and should be able to grind this thing out, although yes, the Hornets could easily come out emotionally flat. It's expected with the magical week last week, but good times bite the bullet, and pull through. With long-time nemesis Montana sitting for the home-opener, the focus will be doubly tough on Sperbeck....but he can do the job here, no doubt in my mind.

On another note, Curtis Shaw is hurt again? What the hell gives here? Crox and McGowan will have to step up here, but that stings a tad. Shaw makes the backfield look very deep, and talented.

The Griz aren't until week four. We are @Weber after @SUU... We're not world-beaters by a long shot, not yet!

Ok, I admit it, I didn't think the Hornets would win last week - but since they did it raises the expectations for the season. I wouldn't call this a must win, but if Sac wants to make it into the playoffs they have to beat teams that they might compete with for an at large bid. This is definitely one of those teams!

Good teams find a way to win games, especially games they should be favored to win. If the Hornets have taken a step forward to become a playoff team they win on Saturday. If not, then this will be another up and down season with everyone focusing on "only losing four games by 10 points". It's time to stop talking and start winning CONSISTENTLY!!

This will be a high scoring battle:

Hornets 38
SSU 35

We will be tested in the 4th QTR. SUU is a very strong 4th QTR team and if we go to prevent or become conservative it might reach up and bite us.

Play to win the entire game, don't let up if we get ahead by a few points.

I have a hard time seeing Parker run the prevent. And I agree, we need a complete game to win this one.
