Hornets against them

Great win (I know about the horrible call against UCD, that sucks), but it was still a great comeback, and I think the future is bright at Sac State.

I can name about 10 horrible calls that went against the Hornets this game, the difference was one team was able to overcome the bad calls, the other is headed home on a bus.

Yeah sorry about not having a game thread. I just felt like watching the game. Looking back, there would have been a ton of angry pissed posts about the same stuff I have been bitching about all season. But it doesn’t matter as the Hornets pulled out the win. Hell of a game. What a great feeling to get the win. 8-)

It was great to see the Hornets keep their poise and pull out a win. After years of seeing them self destruct, this was the most satisfying win I have ever seen. It was nice to see Davis not be able to stop the final drive of the game. I know there has been a lot of talk about Sperbeck and questions regarding his decisions but I am pleased to see that he has this team finally playing disciplined, smart football when it matters most!

You could not have written a better script for the Hornets to win the Causeway! That last drive was near perfection leaving davis no time to work with. I predict that the 2009 Causeway will long be remembered as a real milestone in the progress of the Sac State Football Program! We have been some through some disappointments this season, the injuries, slow start etc. especially since our expectations going in were so high. After poor efforts at UNLV, Poly and vs Eastern Washington many gave up on them but to their credit the Hornets never gave up on themselves. They turned it around the next week at Portland State, then vs Idaho State, a disappointment at a very good Weber State, a courageous effort vs Montana, the win vs Northern Arizona, a nail bitter at Northern Colorado, a hard physical loss in tough weather conditions against a very good Montana State and now this. My point is that every time this team has experienced adversity it has learned from it and used to their advantage. Some of past teams would have mailed it in being down 14-3 at the half, not this crew. It is a real testimony to their heart and toughness, and the direction of the coaching staff, that they don't back down when faced with adversity. I know that it is natural for us as fans that really want the team to win to second guess how the team is run and plays when we don't win and that is part of the fun.
As a Sac State alum and a follower of the Hornets long before many on this board were even born I will tell you that I am very proud and appreciative of their efforts this season and how the program has progressed under Coach Sperbeck and staff. I look forward to 2010! Now when are those Stanford game tickets on sale?

I was so happy for the guys. They were able to overcome a lousy first half and a corrupt field judge who didn't know pass interference when it stared him right in the face and knocked off their hated rivals.

Things look good for next year.

First time I've ever run out on the field after a win, this game is the best game I've ever seen at Hornet Stadium hands down!

This is the single most memorable game I have ever had the pleasure to witness, I'm so excited and happy for the team and the future of the program.

I've never actually felt physically ill, from stress, during a football game. That was until the fourth quarter tonight, it was just sooooo awsome!

GO HORNETS!

This game goes down in Hornet history that EVERY Hornet will talk about. Like "The Play" for Cal, Desmond Howard's PR for TD for Michigan, Kenny Wheaton's Pick 6 that helped Oregon by UW and send them to the Rose Bowl in 1994, Vince Young's TD run against U$C...MBT to Reed to win the game! Of course, MBT to Hendershott on 4th down keeping the drive alive on the drive before too!

I absolutely LOVED that 4th and 18 play. Knowing that corrupt field judge, I'm surprised he didn't try to "make up" an offensive PI call on Hendershott.

BTW, did you guys catch that great KOR gadget? As much as I love the Big Cat, that play would have never flown on one of his teams. We were lucky to run a fake PAT or a Swinging Gate back then....

what a GREAT friggin' day and a great friggin game! spent the morning tailgating, what a great group of people to hang out with and party with. as far as the ruffians that the phaggies were worried about, i saw none in the parking lot. that last drive was epic, reminded me of the niners driving the field to win the super bowl.

i know it always feels good to win a game, but it is so much more satisfying to win against a team with a "holier than thou/country club" attitude. don't know if anyone else saw this, but it was very disturbing. as the clock wound down, there was a group of about 15-20 davis players who made a friggin' bee line to the locker room. they didn't even have the balls to run out and congratulate the hornets on their win. just unbelievable classlessness. this, to me, is worse than any cheap shot penalty during the game. going over to your opponent is the hallmark of any competition and what it means to compete against a worthy foe. to run off is just juvenile.

also, after storming the field, i found my fanboy Crox. after congratulating him, we questioned what one of davis' linemen was talking crap to him about. apparently after a play early in the game, this guy came up to Crox and said "it must suck being born so f-ing short." so after the game, Crox sought this guy out and said "it must really SUCK losing to such a short guy."

great game by all. great game. the team showed heart, poise, and determination. one for the scrapbook. now i am off to the phaggie board to roust them up on a sunday morning to remind them what happened yesterday. or maybe they shut down their board because they lost, haha.

cheers to everyone!

Scoreboard smack is the best smack of all. I love it!

They call us J Street Tech, J Street Driving School, and Drive Thru U, and then end up losing to us. They create their own misery. Meanwhile, Sac State beat the Great West Conference champs.

Worst thing for you guys is that you have these refs all season - we don't. I suspect that they are not always Sac State fans, but they are always bad refs.

Is this another “we are better than you” comment?

It feels great to get the win against these guys. There is really nothing more satisfying. What makes it more enjoyable is the way it happened. Not one but two late 4th quarter drives to win the game. This one just became an instant classic. I keep running the TD pass in my head over and over. Completely amazing. The team really pulled together and pulled it out. Great win!

I agree...the Big Sky refs as a whole are just flat out incompetent...

"Is this another “we are better than you” comment?"

Once in a long while, a comment may be made without an ulterior motive. The Great West has had "stinkers' too. One ref lost us a game against North Dakota State a few years ago that even had NDSU fans scratching their heads who saw it on TV.
