Hornets Land 4-Star Texas LB in Transfer Portal

I found the following info on Adeoye:

A 6’1, 240-pounder from St. Louis, Mo., Adeoye signed with the Longhorns as a member of the 2018 recruiting class. Ranked as a consensus four-star prospect, Adeoye was the No. 119 player nationally and the No. 6 inside linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Unfortunately, Adeoye’s career was quickly derailed by a knee injury suffered during a preseason scrimmage, causing him to miss all but the final four games of the season, during which he played sparingly and did not record any tackles.

As a redshirt freshman in 2019, Adeoye started 10 games at the middle linebacker position, logging 45 tackles (24 solo), three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and one interception.

Under defensive coordinator Chris Ash in 2020, Adeoye faced increased competition at the Mike position with former safety DeMarvion Overshown earning the starting job at Will linebacker. Juwant Mitchell won the starting job in the middle, with former walk-on Cort Jaquess listed first as a co-backup with Adeoye.

After spending the offseason recovering from foot surgery, Adeoye suffered what was initially thought to be a minor shoulder injury during preseason camp. He was cleared to play in the opener against UTEP, but did not see action against the Miners.

Adeoye attempted to play against Texas Tech and TCU, recording five tackles, but the injury was ultimately deemed serious enough that he needed season-ending surgery

Injuries to his knee, foot and shoulder seems to be some of the reasons for his career set back. Hopefully the kid overcomes the injury bug and can help the Hornets reach new heights.

Hopefully he’s recovered nicely - I think the team sees him in an Erickson type role, maybe not as many downs, but coming off the edge… we’ll see!

Thanks for posting. Good story.

Recently I was debating with a few people on a HS football site regarding why some student-athletes might choose SAC ST or any FCS program over a widely perceived more prestigious program such as UCLA or even a top tier academic school.

My argument was some value factors such as fit, locale, challenge, etc. more than they do academics, history or prestige.

This article supports my argument, as Adeoye specifically cites fit and coaching relationships as several of the reasons he spurned larger, more prestigious programs to become a Hornet.

Earning a higher education is a tremendous thing. But the reality is many of the top prospects are either 1 and done (basketball) or 3 and done (football) and don’t finish school. Even then, an accredited degree is an accredited degree.

Unless the student-athlete is focused on a career where a more prestigious degree from Stanford, Northwestern, Duke, MIT or an Ivy league school will greatly matter — who cares?

My argument is the student-athlete should choose the best fit for them and not factor in prestige or how others view their choice.

I’ll never criticize a student-athlete for doing that and don’t think anyone else should.

I’m glad this kid followed his heart and made a decision he believes is best for him.

Beyond that, I’m glad to see the Hornets staff is continuing to up their game in attracting highly talented, top end prospects to the program. Something special is being built here. Hopefully it will have staying power.

How about adding another 4-star?
