Hey Hornet fans, just thought I'd come on here and talk about our upcoming hoops battle. What can we as Wildcat fans expect to see out of the Hornets? what is all your takes on this team? I know they have played very competetively against thier other conf foes already, Who on your team is making noise?

We are hurt, basically sums us up, of course Lillard is out, Hughey is playing on a very sore foot, Bamforth is playing with a re-aggravated shoulder injury, Bullinger also has a sore foot.

We also play alot of underclassmen, alot of sophomores and freshmen are having to grow up really fast with as injured as we are, BJ Porter is a solid shooter, suprising enough he doesnt get much playing time, Morris our senior center is having a good year, Mahoney is a defensive beast and Tresnak is coming along well.

This will be Weber's first home conf game and our first home game in 3 weeks

Looking forward to the first matchup between our teams on thursday.

The Hornets have been competitive but have been unsuccessful in pulling out a win in the close ones. We are 0-4 in OT and have blown chances to win some games in the last Hornet possession. Toles-Bey (TB) is our leading scorer and starting point guard with 12.1 ppg in an over worked 37.1 mins per game. He has been struggling of late but he did nail a handful of 3’s against UM. I’ve been hoping Katz would rest him more and play our freshman point guard Groom to gain some much needed experience.

Returners Dickson (9.7 ppg), and Duro Bjegovic (8.9 ppg) are the next top scorers. Dickson can get hot and be a force, and Duro can work inside or step out and hit the 3. He is very versatile. We have freshman guard Carbajal that starts and is averaging 7.1 ppg. Alpha N’Diaye is our center but has missed much of the season with an ankle injury. He played 13 minutes against UM so I think Katz is working him back into increased playing time. Nelson and McCarver are rotated in at forward. They aren’t anything special but have shown signs of life from time to time; nothing consistent at this point but Nelson appears to be the more athletic of the two. There will be others who come in but they don’t generate much offense which has been an issue with this program the last few years.

Sounds like WSU has had some bad breaks this season (pun intended). I knew Lillard was out but I didn’t know the injury bug is having a field day in Ogden, maybe that will level the playing field a little bit come Thursday night.

I’m not too optimistic for the remainder of the season. I was hoping the Hornets could hover around 500 given the comparable OOC but with some early season struggles and the inability to win the close games both in and out of conference, the rest of the season looks bleak. Our best chances for wins are at home against EWU and ISU. Hopefully this team can surprise a team or two elsewhere and at lease win more BSC games than last season. :|
Best of luck on Thrusday.

Yeah, Randy Rahe has said that the only time this year Weber will be back to 100% (minus Lillard) will be when the season ends, Bamforth and Hughey will be playing all year hurt.

Hughey is our leading scorer, followed by Bamforth, Bullinger has been playing well, alot of the time we are playing 4 underclassmen at the same time. freshman Jordan Richardson doesnt score a whole lot of points, but he does play good defense. Soph BJ Porter who I wish would see more playing time is a great 3 point shooter, and RS Freshman Byron Fulton is playing great for being a RSFreshman.

Sac will get more wins, Sac hasnt had the easiest start to conf play, 2 road games vs teams who are usually good at home, and home games against 2 of the top teams in the conf, and now on the road to Weber and NAU, thats a rough start for anybody in the conf. This is the Big Sky, anything and everything happens in this conference. Its like what Mvemjsunpx said on the bigskyfans forum

A typical Big Sky Conference season is a crazy crapshoot with little rhyme or reason. Bottom-feeders upset contenders, good teams struggle to beat bad teams & follow with blowouts over other good teams, etc.

The Big Sky has got to be the craziest conf out there

im lookin forward to tonights game against sac as i will be moving to CA in a few weeks and will be at the hornets nest for the feb 26 game vs wsu. ive never been to the nest or sac st but drove past it once lol

42-32 WSU at the half. WSU has done whatever they want as the Hornets are having a pathetic effort on defense. Hughey has been unchecked much of the night and has run wild for WSU. The only thing keeping it close is the ability by the Hornets to hit the 3. The Hornets have been terrible from close range and they really need to pick up their inside game if they want to pull this one close. TB has been on fire and has hit some very deep 3’s.

WSU is running the Hornets off the court. They really couldn’t miss a shot if they tried. WSU takes a 19 point lead with 16 mins to go. With the game well in hand, maybe Groom can see some action.

Groom is sent in with under 6 minutes left with the score 73-57 WSU. No one has looked good in the second half.

84-71 WSU final. This wasn’t nearly as close as the score indicates. Hornet 3 point shooting kept them within range in the first half but once they cooled down, there was no catching up to WSU who was shooting lights out. I was hoping Katz would have used this non-pressure situation to get Groom and Rak some significant playing time and much needed D-1 experience but that was not the case. They each saw some garbage time minutes but nothing significant.

Where you moving to WW?

silicon valley in 3 weeks. gonna suck missing all the wsu home games. ive missed maybe 5 home bball games in 10 yrs and football too. been to 30 wsu road games too since 2001-02.

probab sunnyvale, havent found a place yet but will be nice to have sac state close by and i guess ur pals davis  too and poly.

I saw a Sac team that has lots of potential, they hustle, they have loads of energy, they never quit they have a lot of heart, Im surprised that this Sac team hasnt won more games, they look pretty athletic, and alot of them are great 3 point shooters. Sac had some good looks early, just couldnt get them to drop. Weber WILL be hard pressed to get a win at Sac this year.

Some decent small school hoops in your area. You'll be watching mostly Stanford and Cal on the tv due to the media drive for Pac-10 schools. I don't think San Jose State gets much love for hoops. USF and Santa Clara U have been down recently but are close by. I like Santa Clara's arena. Saint Marys is doing well and across the bay to the north but from what I read, they have a smaller arena and tickets aren't always easy to come by. Not sure, though? Davis and Sac State won't be too far for you to go to get an occasional WSU Wildcats fix.

Prepare for traffic gridlock and insane cost of living increase. Other than than, the food, weather and cultural opportunities (music, art, sports) are great. The people and attitude of the locals....meh.

I'm looking forward to the move. 3 Inches of new snow in Ogden last night and I drove 70 miles one way to work. CA gonna b nice weather !!
