How big of a joke is the Mid Major Top 25?

Enough of a joke that Santa Claus received a vote from Buzz Peterson at UNC Wilmington. Plus they have Northern Colorado receiving 13 votes and then 5 votes later in the paragraph. So did they get 18 votes total?

I am not sure that any of you have taken the time to look at the cool kids at band camp list, but it is a joke. Northern Colorado is still getting plenty of votes after dropping four in a row. Meanwhile, we aren't getting a single vote and have looked pretty good for a month now. UVU is leading the WAC by to games, they got a few votes this week. New Mexico State is in the top 15 on the list.

It's not really surprising, is it? Polls are subjective in the first place and having a Mid-Major poll in an attempt to further the fBS type of exclusion is a joke. The funny thing about it is we know where both UNC & WSU sit currently and the direction both are headed. Additionally, we know how different the result would be if Weber and UVU were to tangle now.

No reason to believe we wouldn't lose again in Orem.

1) I'm not much into to predictions, they're rarely correct. That's why nearly everyone's bracket blows up.
2) I'm not sold on Weber being a 16, at all. I think they finish strong 3/4, win tourney, and go in as a 15.
3) Are "play-in" games on a home court? I thought they were at a nutral site like Dayton.
4) No reason to believe we would lose again, anywhere. When they played the first time Weber did not look good (see vsUSU, @CSU, @UVU) and were still trying to figure themselves out. Weber is several times better than that 3-4 point lose and UVU might be too, but I'll bet Weber has improved more so.
5) My biggest fear is they go in as a 15 and compete no better than the disaster last year, the BSC can't take another hit like that! Whoever represents MUST play respectable.
6) Having a mid-major classification is still a joke, exclusive by nature, and a slap in the face to the "have nots."

15, maybe 14 if they can sweep the next 6.

I don't think we will be a #16 either -- but many of you are much more astute at these things than I am.

What I don't think will happen is that UVU gets into the Dance. New Mexico State is the only program in the WAC with any NCAA experience. They are hot right how, while UVU is cooling down -- killed by Seattle at home, barely beat Idaho at home. NM State wins tonight in Orem, and follows that up by cruising through the WAC tourney.

UVU with the win over NM St tonight. And there was a brawl at the end. They're going to win the WAC. We should all be Wolverine fans going into their conference tournament. Would really help Weber if NM St doesn't win it. They have a much better RPI and would definitely be a higher seed.

And........he swings and misses.

I'll still stand by UVU not making it through the tournament. Nearly 5,000 showed up for the game in Orem last night and I'm sure the crowd brought a lot of energy and was a huge 6th man for them. I would actually be excited for them to make their first trip, but I just don't think they are playing that well to finish.

I can't believe we are actually talking about UVU making the tournament... LOOOOOOL. I'm with Utah Pirate, I don't think UVU will make the tournament. Funny that there was a brawl last night (to be honest, I thought there was going to be a brawl during Weber's game too. Garrity and Berry were going at it pretty good and Mikh was getting in Richardson's face).

I couldn't believe that Weber lost to UVU in December. They are such a trashy team. Weber played their second worst game of the entire season (their worst was at CSU) and still should have won. Weber is playing really well now, I don't care where the game would be played...I think Weber could beat UVU by 10 now.

Our 3 wins last week got us a whopping 4 points on the cool kids at band camp list.

Meanwhile....
Sac State got 65
Murray State 64
Montana 51 (Lost to Pepperdine by 6. Pepperdine lost to Drake and Murray State)
Milwaukee 50 (finished second to last at Gulf Coast Showcase)
Central Michigan 49 (Are you kidding! Did any of these coaches realize that they lost 3 games last week?)

Like you said in the past...the mid-major top 25 is a joke. The better rating indicators would Real Time RPI or Ken Pom. Not only did the Cats beat both Drake and Murray State last week, they handled them with relative ease. I understand Sac getting points for their win over Arizona State, and they are 5-1 with some solid DI wins. However, Montana?? That team is not meshing very well right now. They are really hurting without the leadership of Mario Dunn. Walter Wright = Chris Golden 2.0.

i agree the poll is lame but i still follow it each week.

some funny points:

1. last week evansville was spelled "evasnville"

2. central michigan went from #6 to unranked after losing in the gulfcoast showcase

3. 12 of the 25 have between 2-4 losses. 2 teams don't even have a winning record. that tells u a lot about the poll even if they are playing "big" ooc teams.

4. our only losses are to #19 and to a team that's in a conference too good to be in this poll.
