How far can we go

This may be a little premature as we do not know the brackets yet, but how far do you think this team can go in the playoffs?
All the way?
NC runner-up?
Semis?
Qtrs?
One week wonder?

We can play with any team in the FCS. The short answer is we could go all the way, but obviously much will depend on our bracket. NDSU will be the #1 seed, so I am thinking we will get the #3 or #4. That would mean we travel to Fargo if we made it as far as the semi's. That's probably the match-up I'd be least excited about, but even NDSU can be beat (and have been).

If we play in Cheney three straight weekends we can make it to Texas. However, don't forget that EWU has been a strong road playoff team for many years. I was fortunate enough to be at App State in 2007 and we almost beat (38-35) one of the better FCS teams in recent history. Almost doesn't get it done but I don't see a road opponent in these playoffs as tough as App State. I respect ND State but if we travel there that will be a winnable game.

We will be at least a #3 seed today. I guess Old Dominion may get the #2 seed ahead of us but there is no way to justify that based on strength of schedule. I don't think it matters that much. Give us a seed and we will take advantage, just like 2010. Kauffman, Edwards and Herd are playing at a high level and our two headed QB has worked well this season. More testimony that Coach Baldwin is the best coach in the Big Sky and I think the nation as few coaches could have made our QB situation work. He recruited two fine young men and Vernon and Kyle deserve high praise for their maturity and ability to put the team first.

See you at Roos Field December 1. Zag game that day so start working on selling tickets so we sell out. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning. I'm sure someone will post details on that later today.

Please note that in a bracket 1,4, & 5 are in one side and 2 and 3 are in the other side. IMO, ideally we would be 2 or 3 and the Cats would be 4 or 5 so the finals could be all Big Sky

Nobody will want to play us in the playoffs....we are solid on defense and we can light up the scoreboard. We can win the entire thing...

Defensively I wouldn't say "solid" but we are good. I personally haven't seen as many sacks and pressure on the QB as I would like, but I do know that the majority of the teams we have played are shot gun style so it does make it difficult.

I think the real battles start in our 3rd game, semis. Could be any of the three, MSU, Cal Poly, or Sam Houston. It would be nice to play the Cats and beat them again at our house this time, Cal Poly would be tough to beat again, and Sam Houston may be the toughest team.
As we all know, if these Eagles play to their potential, WE WIN it all !!!!!!!!!!

Interesting fact: We play 3 of our potential playoff match-ups during the regular season next year: MSU, Cal Poly, and Sam Houston.

If we play Sam Houston state in the play offs, it will make for a pretty exciting rematch next season.

Either ASU or ISU will be a battle.

I feel pretty good about our potential journey. I have no idea what Wagner brings to the table. Colgate is sort of a conventional running attack where they rotate backs. We'd have to really play rotten to lose to either.

I don't think either Illinois State or Appalachian State is great. If we play our big-boy game, we should beat either. If we bring our weak sauce game, we probably don't win. But those two teams are very capable should we slip at all. I still think we have a much nicer quarterfinal set up for us than pretty much anybody else.

That semi, should we win, is where it gets super tough. Montana State has to feel good about their chances against us given that they won every statistical category that was measurable when we played the first time except the scoreline and turnovers (kinda like our game versus UW last season, except we were the dominant, yet losing, team). Sam Houston State is one of the teams that scared me the most coming in because they are a rough matchup for our defense. But we would get either in Cheney, and if it's SHSU, that's a huge advantage in mid-December.

All in all, I think the first two games are on us. If we come out and play our best football and do it for 60 minutes, I think we'll beat any one of the teams that we could potentially face. The third game is a bit of a mystery; we'll deal with that as it comes.

Dopa;
Finally... we agree on something, YEAH :D
The only tweek I may suggest is our second game. The first game will be "on us" but the second game could be tougher that we expect. If the Eagles take any game in the playoffs lightly it will be our last. We were taken to the limit by several teams that are not in the playoffs. It was obvious in the PSU game we let them in it by blowing the first drive and game they great field position. Once they started to believe they could win they played like it and we had our hands full.

Don't get me wrong, the App State / Illy State winner will be a damn fine football team, and we could easily get defeated by them. What I mean to say was that we are better when we play our best than either of those teams when they play their best. Ergo, if we play our best game, we will win regardless of how they play. Obviously, it makes our life easier and our margin of error a lot greater if they come in and stink it up.

As I think back to the NC year, the Eagles got noticebly better every week, just as the Griz did last year. They were a much better team at the end of the year than when we played them the 3rd game of the year. It seems to me we kind of plateaued at the Cal Poly game. We may get buy Wagner or Colgate being average but against Ap State or Ill State that may bite us and against MSU, Cal Poly or SHSU we need to keep getting better or the playoff run is over. Maybe the bye week will be good physically but we need to get heads back into the game.
