How Good was the Sky

How Good was the Big Sky this season? On a lot of other team boards there has been a lot of talk as to the quality of the Big Sky Conference. One thing that we all know is that the Big Sky's RPI was far better this season than the last couple, and also, that the Sky had some impressive wins this season over major programs. Is the Sky headed in the right direction? Can the Sky consider the 2008-09 season as being a success? Are the teams getting better?

With regard to the teams, I think each team was better this season than last season, with the exception of NAU. What do you all think?

Just because the Conference had 3 5'6 PG's doesn't mean the Big Sky wasn't a good league. PSU is a very good team. We will see how they do today.

Based on RPI, Sagarin Ratings, Mid-Major Top 25, AP Top 25, and non-conference wins, I don't see how anyone could say this hasn't been a better year in the 'Sky than we've seen over the past number of seasons.

We had 3 teams at one time mentioned in the Mid-Major Top 25. I don't think that has ever happened. WSU had 5 votes for AP Top 25, that hasn't happened in 6 years. Our ranking as a conference in the Sagarin hasn't been as high as it was this year in easily 6 years.

MSU had wins over a Pac10 and Big12, we had some WAC wins, PSU beat the No. 7 ranked team in the nation. We went 8-9 with the Big West which we keep getting told is a much better conference than the Big Sky even though we know its not.

I can't see any explanation on how 2009 is a down year for the Big Sky even with Sac winning just 2 games all year.

The Sky was the 17 best conference (in my opinion, should have been the 15) this season. Two years ago when Weber won the league it was the 23/24... I think thats quite the improvement. If Sac was replaced with SUU, the Sky would be a far better conference, and only the Stott would be a joke, since SUU's facilities, especially the Centrum, are far superior to Sacs.
