How it goes down in Boise?

The possibility of teams not being able to play due to Covid-19 protocol is always there. With that in mind and 11 teams, potentially, being in the field, planning this out becomes a nightmare. You would have to have a plan for all numbers of teams 0 to 11.

IMHO, you have one plan and stick to it. You seed and bracket all 11 teams, The top 5 do not play in the first round, Teams 6 through 11 play each other with 3 teams moving on to the round of 8. In the second round 4 will play 5, 3 will play W-6/11, 2 will play W-7/10, and 1 will play the W-8/9. Semi finals would follow the brackets with the potential of 1v2 in the championship. If you had teams that had to drop due to protocols, they would simply forfeit their game. You could test every day of the event if desired.

I see that as the only fair way to do it. Now, watch the BSC come up with something totally different.

The Big sky had a chance with only 8 schools playing football this spring to do 7 games and have everyone play everyone. A chance that hasnt been available in a very long time and they screwed it up. So I wouldn't be surprised to see them screw up the tournament as well.

I'm not certain that this was their thinking, but if they did the 7 games, some teams would get 4 home games, while others just got 3. That would not seem fair. I think that what they did was the most fair, safest, and kept the travel to a reasonable level. I think that they had more on their minds than just balance. It is a very unique circumstance. :coffee:

I understand the situation, but i still would have preferred playing all of the teams or at least 6 different ones. Nothing against Idaho State but playing Eastern or Idaho instead of a 2nd ISU game would have been far more preferable. But I'm not the one who makes the decisions.

Yeah, I agree that it would be nicer to not play anybody twice. That decision must have been made solely on travel expenses. They probably just looked at bussing distances and if an overnight stay was required. I'm sure that ISU isn't thrilled with playing us twice, or UI playing EWU twice, or SUU playing NAU twice, or UCD playing CP twice. I think I would be more upset if I was UI or EWU. They will probably beat eachother up pretty good. SUU will probably leave the BSC without a win. Oh wait, they can go winless in the fall as well.
