How to pack the student section

I must first say, Weber basketball is amazing and I am very impressed with our product on and off the court! We just need a bigger and louder student section to take the program to the next level. I was a student between 2008-2013, where our student section make significant improvements. I love college basketball and I believe it's the students that make a game experience. Fans are more entertained and come back when the students are passionate, recruits are more excited and want to play at a school with strong student support. Also, more games are won when opposing teams are distracted and our players are encouraged to play harder.

I can tell you from experience that one or two passionate students can make a big difference. Here are a few ideas to pack the section even more:

1. Move to student section behind the opposing teams basket in the second half or at least be on the side of the opposing team in the second half.
2. Offer free food for students at the game early. This was done several years ago and was very successful.
3. Pass out several thousand flyers for big games. If you don't like to hand them out place them on cars or dorms. I did this several times as a student and noticed a big difference. Also, have Facebook invites for one or two big games a year. Events can even be advertised on Facebook for a small fee.
4. Someone needs to make sure there aren't random fans sitting in the student section. This discourages other students from standing. Someone also needs to help the students to their seats in the bottom rows, this will ensure the students we do have are standing and cheering. Bottom line is free tickets need to be for standing students.
5. Once we get a packed student section we need a few diehards to sit in the upper rows to help lead cheers and get the casual students going. Hopefully more students will take charge. This can also be done by placing a few loud cheerleaders in the student section or even having a yell leader scholarship like the Cal Bears.
6. We need better recruitment and communication of potential Pack members. This could be done with emails or advertisements on the Weber portal. Once they are a member they could receive a text message before every game.
7. Signs on campus are a must. They need to be visible and attention grabbing. Instead of just saying game tonight they should say something exciting like huge game, rivalry game or pack the house. Small things like color signs or balloons on the signs would grab more attention. Also, a large schedule banner in the Union would be a great reminder.

Overall, our students haven't been bad and I know there are people who have done a great job and deserve credit. We just need to get over that threshold amount, where the students sitting in the back have to stand as we'll because it's so packed.

but we had a good turnout for the msu game.

50 / 27,000 = 0.001851851851859

any chance we can get 2% for the griz? 540

1. We've already had a thorough discussion about and it won't do anything until the numbers increase significantly and for the long-haul.

2. SAA membership promised tailgates. They have failed to keep this promise.

3. Flyers are a nice idea but don't necessarily work in the digital world we now live in. It is FREE to create an event on Facebook and marketing should be doing this for EVERY HOME GAME. Paid advertisements on FB aren't needed. We just need someone in Marketing to take the initiative.

4. I agree with enforcement of the student section being just for students, but it would just emphasize the current state we are in.

6. SAA, aka The Pack, doesn't honor their current commitments. They even advertise membership with benefits the students are already guaranteed. Their "leadership" is unknown at the bball games. All WSUSA leadership was given SAA memberships paid for by WSUSA funds but this still doesn't get the student leaders off their a55e5. It has failed under the Alumni Association and should be returned to the students for administration of duties.

7. Make student-athletes get out on campus to advertise for the other teams when they are out-of-season. Also require them to attend a percentage of games for the other sports.. When the sport they attend has a STUDENT SECTION, they have to BE PART OF IT and STAND.

DOes anyone know why the University FB page doesnt advertise games? They have 30k likes where the athletics page only has 5k. 6 times more people would see. Instead they ask the question of the day. How about asking who is going to the game tonight!

7. Tim Toone was great! It's pathetic to not have a percentage of fellow student-athletes out supporting each other, or are they just a product of the poor overall culture?
