HS All-Star game

I remember seeing in one of the threads some info about the all-star game being played at EWU. Does anyone know the dates to this, and how many of EWUs signees will be playing? Also, does the school receive any sort of revenue for hosting these type events?

The 2011 Washington East-West All Star game will be held at Eastern 7pm July first. The game is played every third year on the east side of the state. There were five EW recruits in the game last year in Everett: Trenton Pinson; Markeen Adams (Non-qualifier who never enrolled); Dylan Zylstra; Zach Chatman; Ashton Boothroyd (invited walkon). Players selecterd for this year's game are supposed to be announced this month. I doubt if Eastern gains financially, but there are other benefits to hosting the game such as the players will be staying on campus practicing the week before the game which brings a lot of visitors. Rick Giampietri, Central Valley HS coach and an Eastern grad, is involved with the planning of the game and I'm sure had input in getting the game to Cheney.

Although a really fun game, it doesn't really represent the talent of the state of Washington. The WIAA does spread out the invites for various conferences as this would most likely be a Seattle vs Spokane game. Many of the kids with offers decline (not all) to not risk injury, that's why SO MANY alternates are chosen, but no big deal, they are all still very good. Also, many other really good kids aren't selected because they are in a talent heavy confernce (hence Kingco). All the kids chosen for this game are GREAT ATHLETES, but after all said and done, look and see how many have college offers. Still, can't wait for the game!!!!! GO WEST.

If nothing else, just the fact that it's being held on campus vice someplace like Joe Albi is cool. It gets people out to campus and the U in the public eye a little during the off-season. Now if we could just get the Seahawks back out to Cheney in the summers. :thumb:
