Jim Beseda's editor is a snake-in-the-grass.

I know Jim Beseda is the PSU beat writer and has to have certain relationships with PSU admin., coaches and players in order to get his story. But the final product of his stories read are pathetic! They tend to report the fact in mind-munbing check-list fashion without giving much at all to feed the spirit of the PSU faithful. They would run that editor outta town in Missoula on a rail and then tar-and-feather him. His stories end up giving credit but only where they absolutely have to. Otherwise they strongly tend to subtly disrespect the PSU athletics program being covered with ulterior designs of assumed pre-suppositions and negatively-biased tonality. His editor is certainly to blame.

Jim Beseda is a UO graduate of their journalism school, so we know where his loyalties lie. The UO has had it in for PSU ever since 1955 when Portland State gained college status. His stories use a lot of rehash and if it weren't for the quotes of the players and coaches (and the score), there'd be very little of value to take in in those stories of his. But then again, it is certainly the editor doing most of the carnival shenanigans.

Ian Ruder would have the right stuff to be the PSU Beat Writer but would still be held captive to the editor's unholy agenda. It must be the Oregonian editor who believes in the phrase "Keep Portland Raunchy and Unsavory." The solution is for Ian Ruder to write and be the PSU Beat Writer for the Portland Tribune.
