Well, here we go. Preseason is over. We have some quality wins under our belts, but we also have a couple of bad losses. We seem to be coming together lately, but still have some room to grow.

ISU seems to be a little better than everyone thought they would be. I expect a good effort from them. They've picked up some better players since last year. They are still losing a lot, but have been much more competitive so far this year. I believe that we will see a lot of zone defense. I think they will try to slow the game down. Their zone will be one of the best we will see this year, it always is.

Our zone attack is better this year than last. How we play against their zone may determine how other teams will play us down the road. If we stomp their zone it will only make life easier for us the rest of the way. Much like beating the crap out of some full court presses in Florida has changed what we have seen since then.

I predict a hard fought game. We pull away in the second half to win 85-69. :coffee:

KenPom gives Idaho State a six percent chance of winning Saturday night, which is about right. The Bengals had a good win over Cal-Northridge last night. Ali Faruq-Bey had 32 points and Ethan Telfair was of 11 of 13 from the foul line to clinch it down the stretch.

The Bengals are the classic "bagel team" -- we have three or four perimeter players who can hurt you, but we have a giant hole in the middle. We have very little size or strength inside, and our bigs get in a lot of foul trouble. I would expect Bolomboy and Hill to have big games.

Bill Evans has tried to play some man defense this year because teams that can shoot the three have just killed our zone in recent years, but I think that experiment is pretty much over. We played nothing but zone last night. We still gave up 36 points in the paint.

I like this ISU team and there is a lot of room for growth. Ben Wilson is the only senior seeing any action. But I don't think they are ready to go to Ogden and get a win. I do expect them to compete.

Very excited for conference play to begin and to see how we stack up against the other schools in the conference!

There has been a lot of criticism of Rahe in the early part of the season, but now it's crunch time. This is where he shines. For the most part, in the Rahe era, we have been completely dominant during conference play at home. I expect this season to be no different!

Idaho State had an impressive win last night, but in my opinion they are totally outmatched for this game. We've got the size and skill players that should dominate in the paint all game long. ISU has a few decent outside shooters which could keep things interesting, but I look for Weber to run away with this one.

I hope fans come out and support the team. Isn't ISU supposed to be our "rival?" Although if you questioned the students on campus my guess is many of them wouldn't know it... I'll be there with the fam, ready to watch my Wildcats give the boys from Pocatello a good ol' fashioned beat down!

I can hardly contain my excitement of watching Rahe "dominate" a meaningless BSC regular season. I can't wait to see if he is the King of Reno and is able to send Joel out properly.

I don't see trying to win the BSC championship in basketball as meaningless. After that, it is also good to win the BSC post season tournament. If you lose in the tournament, you are still the BSC champion. Of course we want the NCAA Championship tournament, but post season play is guaranteed by being the BSC champion. Every BSC game has meaning and is important. :wall:

I've seen this every year for the past several years. People are away from their computers over the holidays. Things always go quiet between Christmas and back to school. I don't read it as lack of interest, just lack of access.

I think we will have a bigger crowd for this game than the last one. I was actually surprised at the crowd we had for Multnomah. I thought it would be much smaller. I was also surprised by the quality of play that our bench produced. It seems to me like we are getting a little better student participation this year. I'm hoping that these trends continue. I think they will. :thumb: :thumb:

Got my Weber gear on and I'm ready for conference to start. Let's get Conf play off to a good start with a win over our border rivals.

GO WILDCATS

Yeah, I am always stoked to take on ISU on or near my birthday. What a great gift if we could pound the Pocatello kitties into submission. I know we were playing a patsie last game but two awesome things happened : #1 I was able to take my grandson to his first ever college basketball game. ( he lives in Georgia and his elem. school mascot is a wildcat AND their colors are purple & white)
#2 We were RAINING open threes! If we keep hitting behind the arch at a high rate like last game....good luck Big Sky Conference lol.

Even though it's a weak team in a weak conference (Idaho State), it was nice to see another division I team in the Dee Events Center. The second half was a little difficult to watch though. It's a problem throughout all of the NCAA where fouls are called way too often. It slows down the game, ruins the flow of the game, and makes it more difficult to watch. I think that kind of took the wind out of Weber's sails in the second half. But, Idaho State has little inside presence and wasn't hitting their outside shots (32.2% from the field and 1-12 from three), so Weber was still able to pull off a dominant final score despite looking a bit uninspired in the second half.

It's hard to keep your concentration when the other team is slapping you in the face, elbowing, and jumping on your back, and the refs refuse to make the right call. I thought the kids came through it OK, but we have had a lot better officiating up to the start of BSC play. ISU is scrappy, but if they continue to be allowed to do what they were doing, a lot of players in the BSC are going to be injured. My feelings are that any player injured by the refs allowing this kind of play, should sue the BSC for lack of institutional control over their administration of officiating.

You should see the level of stokeage on the ISU fan board, it's off the charts

Wasn't sure if it was just good defense by Weber or bad shooting by ISU (or a combination), but Weber held a team that had been shooting around 45% over its last few games to only 32% (and only 8% from 3).

Loved Bolomboy's dominance down low. Just think how far he has come not just from his freshman year, but from his sophomore and junior years. He has a nice 10-15 footer on the baseline and his moves around the basket have gotten much more fluid.
Happy to see Cannon make both his 3s.
Braxton had a strong 2nd half, despite missing 4 foul shots. That might have been his best rebounding effort so far this year.
