Boy I picked the wrong game to go to. Wildcats had a good first half, but stunk it up in the second half turnovers and had some issues with rebounding.

The Idaho State coach is a prick. At the very start of the game he yelled down the officials over some loose ball call. I could hear him from my seats high up. I would have “T’d” him up and put his bald headed butt in his place, but the awful Big Sky referees just let that intimidate them into not making some calls.

Idaho State’s defense did an excellent job of preventing penetration, but when the Wildcats did, they mobbed them and got away with a lot fouling (bald headed prick’s plan). On the other side Idaho State just threw arms up and spazzed on stripped balls or on the defense holding their ground. The Wildcats just needed to flop when Idaho State’s big man threw his shoulder into the defender’s chest a couple of times, and they would have got a foul or two called. When the officiating is going off selling it, you have to respond in turn.

As excited as I’m for the Wildcats renewed defensive energy, they have some glaring weaknesses: lack of post game and can’t hit open threes.

At the same time, you have to credit Idaho State and their bald headed prick coach. They do play tough and I think they will finish in the top four. Wildcats will have to steal a big game or two on the road for dropping a solo week home game.

The road trip next week will be very telling. EWU swept the Montana schools, but I would think the best Weber State could do is get a split. I’m thinking Wildcats will finish more 4-6 after seeing some of the eye-opening weaknesses the Wildcats had vs a tougher Bengals team.

Still am liking the effort that Duft has the team playing with.
