Well Custer got a workout carry 28 times for 184 yards...not much has been talked about that aspect. Guess our vaulted line did it's job and hope we are healthy for next week. Sounded when we lost our guard the backup was hurt and they were playing a tackle in the guard spot according to Larry. EB3 has some sort of an injury that allows him to play. He infact didn't srimmage the last two fall scrimmages and that was a yellow flag to me and he hasn't been allowed to or by design make plays with his feet. He looks to be fighting thru something and he took some whacks last game to be sure which didn't help things If Ojoh is hurt...yeeouch. We are loaded with talent and again this year we will see some new names hopefully help carry this team on Sat. (and beyond) at the Kibbie Dome. Custer was a work horse to be sure.

Custer ran smart and hard. It was good to see. OL played well. Was just talking with my wife about Ojoh's status... We are psychically linked. Sorry.

Dorton has really stepped up and Boston was great Saturday. Feels like the team is building to something as long as EB3 is at the helm. Idaho may be in BIG trouble.

If Ojoh is out this week, might make sense to bring up Ty Graham. He can play in four games. This one is an absolute must-win, so he might be needed. I truly don't know how banged up Ojoh is, so he might be fine and this is all moot.

Sounds like Keith Moore might be back... and dammit, he is really needed.

You could see Jax State watched that NDSU game film, because they ran that same delayed QB draw to great affect against us that NDSU chewed us up with. We've got to get tougher in the middle of the DL. Giving up perpetual yards to that simple play really hurts us.

JSU ran that delayed Qb draw about 5 times in a row, and Eastern had no answer for it. It almost seems like they randomly tried it and saw success, so they just kept on running it.

Totally. But it wasn't random. North Dakota State kicked our asses with the same play, and even the Huskies hit us with it a couple of times for big yards. It's disappointing we haven't found an answer for what might be the simplest play in the World to defend. Ultimately, we just need to toughen up in the middle, because the second our linebackers read a pass and vacate that zone, the other team relishes getting their QB one on one with our DTs... we've been losing that battle every time.

Strangely, we did really well with the same play last year letting Barriere blow past the opposing DL. Yet we don't seem to do it anymore.

I’ve always seen Best as the “between the tackles” guy at Eastern, wouldn’t he be the first to recognize that and instruct his DC to (and potentially how to) correct it? I was cringing watching that QB run the same damn play over and over!

It appeared to me our D-line was sliding to both sides of the QB forming a pocket BUT there was no linebackers to cover the top of the pocket. It was not a called delayed QB run but the opportunity was there when the backers were trying to cover #84 slot receiver. My untrained eye says there needs to be better gap integrity on the d-line.

Per S-R

EWU’s two starting linebackers, Chris Ojoh and Jack Sendelbach, appeared injured on Tuesday. Ojoh, who went down in the fourth quarter on Saturday, was on crutches and had a wrap around his foot. Sendelbach, who had 12 tackles and finished the game, was sidelined in an arm sling. Starting cornerback Darreon Moore, who also went down in the JSU game, was also sidelined at practice with a wrap around his upper leg.

This will not be an easy win......YIKES!!!! Per Yogi Berra " It's getting late early out there"

The Spokesman article is pretty accurate. Our defense isn't mediocre, they've been terrible. Like far worse than mediocre. As bas as Idaho's offense has been, this game is far from a walkover and I expect them to have a great offensive showing against our D.

Ultimately, we don't need perfection from the defense. But when momentum swings in a game, they need to be able to step up and get a couple of critical stops. They haven't really done it once all year... maybe to some degree against Lindenwood, but it's hard to rate that. They still gave up 31 points to an average D2 team, and there's no glossing over that fact.

If we're going to make any noise this season, the defense has to be substantially better than they've been.

That DII team lost at home last Saturday to Midwestern State University, another DII team.
