That was brutally ugly.

Down again BIG to start the game. Against playoff teams, I think we would be D.O.A.

I get the wet weather...but dropped balls hitting dudes in the mitts?

You can't live off of 'circus catches' and feel okay.

O-line blocking is High School.

We had to jerk our starting QB early in the game. Not a good sign.

I feel uneasy going into the playoffs.

I will say that it seems every week anyone can "almost" beat anyone in the Big Sky, with a few exceptions.

Its all about matchups. For whatever reason PSU has our number. We overcame this today. We will host in the INFERNO and will make our statement then.

Hard to explain but PSU does play well against us. It was ugly but I think we will all take the win and move on. We've outplayed teams (UW) and lost so ugly wins work for me. A credit to our coaches for sticking to their game plan but adjusting it enough to pull out the win. Happy Thanksgiving to our players, coaches and our administration. We will all have a nice Thanksgiving while some other local college football teams might not have the same experience this week.

Good work by Gonzaga Prep as they battled hard in the playoffs but came up a little short against Bellarmine Prep. Mead battled Auburn but their season is over. Wear your Eagle red this weekend when University High School plays Eastside Catholic Saturday at Albi-according to the Spokesman 1:00 pm game time. EWU football has strong ties to U-High. EWU Hall of Fame coach Dave Holmes coached at University after his college coaching career at Eastern and Hawaii. Since we don't have a game this weekend let's support the local high school team. Assume there will be at least one future Eagle on the field Saturday.

I hate to say it, but I'm feeling the same way. It's like every week we are finding ways to win, which is great, but the same problems with horrendous run blocking, predictable play calling in running situations, and poor tackling rear their ugly head. We are going to need to show huge intensity every week from now on to have a chance. It just seems overly optimistic to think we'll continue to face team after team we can dice downfield.

Well, that's probably because you two are the most negative posters on this board.

Funny, every time things aren't going our way I feel like we'll do what it takes to win. I'm guessing I enjoy the games a hell of a lot more than you...

Well, you most certainly don't. I think people that care the most are the ones who are most critical. I don't think our performance yesterday was all love and roses. Portland State played well, and that certainly was a factor, but there were soooo many things that Eastern can and should have done better. Anyone who isn't seeing that really isn't paying attention. I mean, how do you look at our runing game and think "well, we won so that was good enough?" Shit, it was brutal yesterday.

Playing against Portland State, that was good enough, mainly because Padron made some great throws and when he didn't, Kaufman bailed us out of some jams. But that won't be good enough in the playoffs. I want to make a deep run, and those things need to be significantly improved upon in a short time.

I love going to and wathcing football games. And I'll take narrow victories when we're playing the cream of the crop. But anythign less than winning with cushion is just bad for my heart when it comes to these poor teams.

Also, I'm not even one of these people who gets all fired up just because a team loses. I mean winning ugly is better than losing, but I never feel bad if we play our asses off and lose. There certainly is no shame in that. We didn't play poorly against WSU, and I didn't think anyone was critical of that performance.

Portland was putting 8 in the box almost every play. Also, the boys were playing in a swamp. Of course the running game is going to get shut down!

The only thing is, PSU was running it. I actually think the rain has more of an effect on the passing game...I.E. trying to catch slick balls.

That brings up my loading the box point. We weren't putting 6 guys on the line, then blitzing two. We had four guys on the line and blitzes from us weren't very common. With our lack of loading the box, they still only got 199 rushing. The rain vastly effects the run game, especially with our smaller, evasive backs. You can't make proper cuts to use your blockers. Then, you can't drive the pile once you make contact. (Your cleats start to slip in either case.)

Catching is more difficult in the rain, but not vastly. We had 463 yards of passing. It seems to me that the coaches knew the run game was hopeless. But they kept on attempting it, just to give Portland a reason to load the box.

Luckily, we probably won't have to play in a mud bowl again. We have home field up until the championships (if we make it that far). A good thing coaches should look into next year is getting off the turf during practices, and hitting some of those muddy, wet intramural fields.

Ahahaha. This. If any other team in our conference was in our position, their boards would bursting with pride. For some reason, some o our biggest posters are EWU apologists who feel they need to suck up to the likes of UW, WSU and UM. Why can't we just have a little fun with our 2 seed and actually recognize that our team is good? I know I'll catch he'll for this, but Jesus, we're the big boys now. Start acting like it.

Well, I will say that we definitely under-achieved against PSU. I expected them to play us tough, they always do...but this is a team we should have dominated from start to finish, and for some reason we didn't. When you are playing the last game of the season for a Big Sky title and playoff seed, you don't expect to see some of the special teams blunders (ball snapped over punters head, kick return guys running into each other) etc. That stuff was straight clown ball and was the main thing I was upset about. I understood why we couldn't run the ball when they had 7 guys in the box, so that wasn't even that big of a deal to me. It was some of the lack of focus issues.

Luckily we have a couple of weeks off to work on some thing and I think we can make a run at this thing if we start playing up to our potential, but I think we can all agree that there were large portions of yesterdays game that we did not play playoff football.

So PSU rushes for 199 yds and we rush for 0. Get it...the big goose egg. C'mon, I'm not critical, but I can see and read the stats! One team can run, we can't. This has the potential to crush us in the playoffs. So a team loads the box, all day...can't we audible? I agree with the earlier posts - weird snap over our punters head, fumbling the kickoff. I get it. It's called turnovers. Remember how we stole it from Montana at the end? But we can't live on circus catches and NO RUN game.

It seems the team either starts the game with a flat tire and it takes a while to fix, or else we get bored driving on the "football highway," fall asleep at the wheel and then jerk the car back into the center lane avoiding disaster.

I like this team. I think we may be able to win it all. But have we used up 'all our breaks' this year?

Sunday: Read my post about the conditions which effected our run game. Portland State loading the box in a mud bowl is almost guaranteed to shut down the run. Luckily, it opened up 463 yards passing for us! Do you really think Portland would have been able to run if we blitzed Johson and Hamlin with six defensive linemen every play? No, but if we had used that strategy, Portland would have racked up the passing yards on us. Portland's defensive strategy was just idiotic, that is why we were able to get 41 points. Don't be disappointed in the offense, that attitude is very misdirected.

Sunday and All,
I remembered 2010, I felt like most of you. I even walked out of the ND Game, it took us 3 Overtimes to win the game. I have learned what type of team EWU is, they will do every to win their games. I will never walk out of another Eagles Game, "NEVER", or leave before the game is over. This is what happened 2010. The game was in the 4th qtr, with approximately 2:55 left in the game, when Our QB fumbled the ball. It had snowed, so I left and went to my auto to get the snow off. However, I listened to the game on the radio, while cleaning the snow, we finally got the ball back I think we had 2:29 left in the game, ball on our 10 yd line, had 90 yards to go to tie the game. This team came back tied up the game, I couldn't get back to my seats fast enough, because of the ice on the ground. I got in to see our WR (Tyler Hart) catching the ball for the go ahead touchdown. We held and the game was over.

In the Championship against Delaware State, when we fell behind 19-0, honestly I wasn't worried, I knew what our team was capable of doing. "Keep the FAITH" From my beautiful deceased wife Lips. Hope this make all feel better, I do. Vic
