Improving Student Section

At almost every university across the U.S. this has become a major issue and important function to fulfill. ADs recognize the importance of developing a student section, not just because these are a universities future providers, but they are also an element of entertainment for other season ticket holders, and finally help keep home court advantage. Your students are the craziest, most outrageous, and insane fans. They can get away with doing outlandish things. So...since a student section is so important, why are the powers that be, not concerned about developing, building, hell creating a student section? That would be one of my top priorities, along with developing our product and brand.

Anyway, since nobody seems concerned with future ticket sales, development, and/or establishing a home court advantage fueled by a section of insane students. I'm wondering what we can do. I've had an idea, but I need deeper pockets. My idea is a, "if you build it, they will come" type of thing. If I can raise 25K I will find 12 insane/good looking coeds to sit on the front row. We all know, if there are good looking girls that guys will automatically come with them. Guys will try to one up them and so they will all be cheering and acting crazy. The 25K will be for tuition waivers. That's right 2K to go to 5 football games and 15 home basketball games. They'd lead cheers create new ones...it might be an interesting idea, but it is a start.

I know it is totally unfathomable to think about, but if WSUSA, SAA, Ambassadors, SAAC the Greeks, those cheerleaders who aren't cheering at the current game, went to every game and sat together a whole chunk of the section would be full. There is power in numbers. They already get tuition benefits but don't really care because there isn't any accountability. Sad...

Well, let's start with beating SUU once season, and see if interest gets better from there.
:agree: and then add USU more than once every 4 years. A win is a win but Thursday's win vs Idaho was not very exciting or entertaining. I'm looking for a competent offense that can do more than take the first, often forced, 3pt look they see. I know it's nothing new but I can't help wonder why it will change next season. Hajek is the ONLY one Rahe doesn't send to the perimeter.

I get wanting positive change, Tal, but paying students to be fans of their school? Is it really this bad?!
:wall:

Students are no different than any of us. They want to see quality basketball. The majority of our students are in state and wins against in state schools for bragging rights would be huge. Look at Utah in the last two years ... attendance has sky rocketed because the program is successful. It would also help to recruit more local players but that seems out of reach but for the occasional exception.

Right on! Now days there is so much bang for the buck & there needs to be an incentive to go to games, I've noticed sitting next to students at the Dee their focus is on the friends nearby, socializing & looking at their I phones or smart phones. They look up once in awhile at the game going on but they don't clap or cheer. Yes, these aren't the "excited for the game" types, but they seem to be more and more. Make it a social type event, and Tal's idea might help with pretty gals but paying them to go? I still hold to the old idea of getting the social clubs more involved & promoting it. Look at the U's "MUSS"?, a big draw. But Weber State now days is more like a UVU or SUU type crowd than a USU or U...it is what it is. :twocents:

I totally agree. Not much to look forward to UNLESS coaches change things up dramatically, which I personally don't see happening. We need to keep all the younger players and counsel out three upper class men. Attitude of the team must change and it starts at the top.
