How on God's green Earth did we lose to IDAHO?!?!?

They are hot garbage. The don't even look competent on offense, and yet they hung 35 on us and scored TDs on four of their first six possessions.

If this season comes out at something like 7-5, that'll be the game that we will look back on and go WTF! Had we even managed a half-ass effort in that game, we'd have a winning record right now.

LDopa;
IMO it goes all the way back to summer conditioning. @ the JSU game we were just worn out in the 2nd half, blame it on the heat and or humidity but I have to wonder if our players were just not ready. Then JSU beat us again in Moscow, wearing different uniforms. We came out really flat and soft, Idaho was ready and we thought we were so tough we didn't have to give 100%. Those were two very winnable games that will come back to haunt us.

Dopa, my wife and I were at that Idaho game and it was absurd how bad the EAGS played. In the first half NOTHING worked, no breaks, stupid mistakes, just garbage. At the game today I couldn't quit reminding myself that this Northern Colorado team beat Idaho. A real head scratcher.

Not like the Eastern teams I've been watching since 2007, always had a bark and always fought back. Never did we not crush the opponents in the 4th qrt win or loose. This version, this year has no spark, no get up and go and for the love of life, way to many penalties. I love Best but the product this year is way below par, JMO.

And today Sac State beats Idaho 50-zip? And we lost to both of them. Sac State appears to be a much better team than we gave them credit for; if true, then we might not have been quite as bad as it appeared. Or has Idaho been decimated with injuries since they beat us? If we had played Idaho the first half like we did the second half? Or was their second string defense in for the second half? Injuries ARE a proven perennial problem for The Eagles, and besides losing games, it is not fair to our players. I agree that early season conditioning/dehydration are the most obvious culprits.

60's, yesterday Idaho lost to PSU 24-0. And Sac State beat #6 Montana State 34-21. Sacramento State beat UNC 50-0 on 9/14.
I knew Sac St was gonna be good just look at their 2 FBS and only losses before we saw them...19-7 vs Arizona State (ASU beat Wa St yesterday and is 5-1)and 34-20 to Fresno St.
They shouldn't be a surprise to anyone and Troy Taylor has surrounded himself with top of the line assistant coaches including Cherokee Valeria.

*Idaho State beat North Dakota yesterday 55-20

Idaho has not looked good at all since beating us. I totally agree with clawman, we quit so bad late in the game against Jax State that our confidence was just completely shattered going into the Idaho game. On top of that, Jax State beat us up to the point we had half our defense missing. By the time we even starting giving half of an effort in Moscow, we were already down 28-0. Just playing the averages it would seem we'll likely miss the playoffs this year, and that game may very well be the one we look back on and see a horrendous missed opportunity.

Sac State is starting to look like the real deal. Beating MSU in Bozeman is no joke, because the Bobcats are pretty stout this year. We'll know a lot more about both Montana and Sac State next Saturday when they play in Cali. It could very well be the game that decides the conference championship.

Also, as it relates to conditioning, it's hard to play in the South early in the year if you're a West Coast team. Oregon did the same thing against Auburn that Eastern did against Jax State. They were the better team by a mile through 3 quarters and then just fell apart late. When you're not accustomed to playing in high heat and humidity, it's tough to do. It's like playing at altitude. You either are used to it, or you aren't.

I was at the Jax St game...it was hot and humid as hell.

Sac St appears to be a really good team this year. Losing to them at home probably isn’t as bad as we had originally thought.

The only completely inexcusable loss is Idaho. We had no business losing that game.

I’m still holding out some hope that we can salvage this season in some small way. I’d love for us to get some key players back from injury and finish out the season strong to build momentum for another title run next year.

On another note, I think it’s time to give some game reps to our other backup Qb’s. QB2 has not been able to move the offense in the games he played in. I don’t known if it’s a confidence thing or what.

In scrimmages,spring and fall he looked pretty good, at least I was impressed. Surprised things have not gone better in the brief time he has been in games.

always one to give the benefit of the doubt...and doubt... and doubt. One more doubt and there's no doubt left. No doubt about it.

Yeah, man. He's really struggling. I can kinda / sorta give him a pass for not getting the offense moving when he's playing with the reserves like he was late in the UNC game. But he also took a drive with the starting unit in the UNC game and several drives with the starters at Sac State and couldn't do a damn thing.

In fairness to Gunnar, the offense of last year suited him and his mobility. The pocket game is tough for him because he's not even 6' in heels. The pocket game doesn't suit Barriere much either, as his strengths are his feet as well. It makes some of the offense seem sorta weird that we're asking these guys to settle into the pocket so often.

LDopa;
Are you being cynical??? When have you seen this Oline maintain a pocket? Isn't that for gummie bears?

The strange thing is that it's basically the exact same OL as last year when they were running teams over. Now we can't have our QB drop back without a holding call. I have no explanation. They did play a lot better against UNC, but the results over the year have been pretty tragic. It doesn't help when we blow a lot of reads at the QB position.

After watching Coach Best and his film review I have to soften my criticism of the Oline, there was some good protection allowing Eric time to find open receivers. Note that N Col is 121 of 124 teams in FCS in pass yards allowed. They are 85 of 124 in rushing defense so not too good defensively.
When asked about red zone offense Best said "there was none"! Again we couldn't move the ball in the red zone against the team that is 104th of 124 in 3rd down conversion defense and 118 of 124 in 4th down conversion defense.
So we were ahead 40-0 @ half but we SHOULD have been than and more!!
Then we got beat 21-14 in the 2nd half.
I'm hoping the game in Msla is not a repeat of the 2015 game 57-16. I am sure Bobby Hauck is looking forward to and will have the Griz ready for that game.

Thanks for sharing. Would love to attend this type of function and glad to hear the question about red zone asked. No real answer I guess but step one is admitting there is a problem. As you say, Hauck will have the Griz more than ready; this is why they brought him back.

Let the games begin.
